Abstract: Disclosed is a bit-symbol mapping method using multi-pulse position modulation (MPPM), which relevant to the field of signal processing. An index of each dimension of an N-order M-dimensional matrix may be a pulse position number of a MPPM(N, M) symbol. The method includes mapping integers to a super-triangular area of the N-order M-dimensional matrix and establishing a correlation between the integers and the N-order M-dimensional matrix elements. In this way, a correspondence between a bit sequence and a MPPM(N, M) symbol is established using a correspondence between the N-order M-dimensional matrix element and an index number of each dimension of the N-order M-dimensional matrix element. A mathematical expression of the number of integers mapped to each layer in each dimension of a super-triangular area of an N-order M-dimensional matrix is used to generate a lookup table TLUT.

Abstract: A device for generating oscillating signals includes an energy transfer device configured to apply an oscillating signal to a sensitive volume, and a resonant tuning circuit including the energy transfer device. The tuning circuit includes a tuning capacitor configured to cause the tuning circuit to resonate at a selected frequency, and an energy storage device. The transmitting device also includes a controller configured to apply a pulse sequence to the tuning circuit having a series of pulses, the energy storage device configured to retain electrical energy at an end of a first pulse, and discharge the electrical energy to the tuning circuit at an onset of a next pulse of the pulse sequence.

Abstract: A method for obtaining accuracy gravity coefficients out of three orthogonally oriented accelerometer devices and a thermometer by computing, using a pre-programmed micro-control unit processor, temperature errors, bias error coefficients, sensitivity error coefficients, and orthogonality error coefficients during measurement while drilling operations. Particularly, the method uses voltage data values of the three orthogonally oriented accelerometers to compute said error coefficients which provides for zero-error positioning of the MWD tool during long-term downhole surveying as well as while facing high-shock, vibrations, and high temperatures.

Abstract: A method for downlinking communication from a surface location to a bottom hole assembly during drilling operation is provided. The method includes pumping drilling fluid through a fluid line and through a drill string to the bottom hole assembly, and generating pressure wave signals by a modulator disposed against an outside surface of the fluid line at an outside-surface location of the fluid line. The modulator is disposed entirely outside of the fluid line. The method includes detecting and receiving at the bottom hole assembly the pressure wave signals generated by the modulator, and processing and decoding the pressure wave signals with a decoder associated with the bottom hole assembly to identify downlinking command purpose and required action for controlling drilling operations.

Abstract: A telemetry system includes a downhole device configured to generate modulated pressure pulses in drilling fluid within a drill string, first and second transducers configured provide first and second telemetry signals, respectively, responsive to pressure variations in the drilling fluid, and a telemetry computer coupled to the transducers. The telemetry computer includes a processor and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory contains instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the telemetry computer to be configured to transform the first and second telemetry signals to a time-frequency domain representation to provide first and second time-frequency telemetry signals, respectively; and apply an unmixing filter to the first and second time-frequency telemetry signals to provide an enhanced signal in the time-frequency domain. The enhanced signal has a source signal component separated from a noise component, and the first and second telemetry signals are mixed source-noise signals.

Abstract: Methods and systems for generating pulses in drilling fluid are described. The methods include driving rotation of a rotor relative to a stator of a pulser assembly in an oscillatory manner. The oscillatory manner includes rotating an obstructing element from a middle position to a first blocking angle position and rotating the obstructing element from the first blocking angle position to a second blocking angle position such that selective obstruction occurs. Rotation of the at least one obstructing element selectively obstructs a stator flow passage when drilling fluid is flowing through the drill string to generate a pressure pulse in the drilling fluid and the oscillatory manner is an oscillation of the obstructing element between the first blocking angle position and the second blocking angle position such that a single oscillation is between two obstructed states of the stator flow passage.
