Abstract:
An insulating paperboard contains at least one layer of cellulose fibers. The one layer is at least partially composed of bulky fibers. The paperboard is sufficiently insulated to provide a hot water nullT across the paperboard of at least 0.7null C.null2.3null C. per 0.1 mm of caliper. The paperboard may be embossed to decrease surface transmission of heat. A hot cup may be produced from the insulating paperboard.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a paper quality improver composition for papermaking, which is excellent in improved efficiencies of bulky value, brightness, opacity and the like of pulp sheet, demanded at lightening paper and increasing a blending amount of deinked pulp, even by adding a small amount thereof as well as which is further excellent in an improved efficiency of paper-strength. That is, the present invention provides a paper quality improver composition for papermaking; which comprises (A) a compound having lyotropic degree measured by a specific method of not less than 4% and satisfying at least two of (i) standard improved bulky value of not less than 0.02 g/cm3, (ii) standard improved brightness of not less than 0.5 point, and (iii) standard improved opacity of not less than 0.5 point and (B) a water-soluble polymer satisfying an average molecular weight and/or a viscosity thereof of specific value.

Abstract:
The present invention provides an extruded cellulosic fibrous product. In one embodiment, the product includes in situ crosslinked cellulosic fibers. In another embodiment, the product further includes a bonding agent. The product can optionally include other fibers and absorbent material. Methods for making the cellulosic fibrous product and absorbent articles that include the cellulosic fibrous product are also described.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to process for the production of paper from a suspension containing cellulosic fibers, and optional fillers, comprising adding to the suspension drainage and retention aids comprising a cationic organic polymer and anionic microparticulate material, forming and dewatering the suspension on a wire, wherein the cationic organic polymer has a non-aromatic hydrophobic group. The invention further relates to a cationic vinyl addition polymer comprising in polymerized form at least one non-cationic monomer having a non-aromatic hydrophobic group and at least one cationic monomer.
Abstract:
There is provided a method for flocculating one or more particulate materials present in a dispersion, the method comprising contacting the dispersion with (i) fibrous cationic colloidal alumina microparticles; and (ii) a cationic polymer and/or a non-ionic polymer.
Abstract:
The present invention is generally directed to an opaque tissue product and a process for making the same. The tissue products of the present invention comprise thermally expandable microspheres which impart increased opacity to the tissues. The thermally expandable microspheres are added to a fiber furnish during the wet end of a manufacturing process for bath tissue, facial tissue, towels, or the like.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for stabilizing the pH of a pulp suspension with buffering agents and to a process for producing paper from a stabilized pulp suspension. The alkalinity of the pulp suspension is increased by a combination of an alkali metal hydroxide feed and a carbon dioxide feed. Said feeds provide a significant buffering effect which stablilizes the pH of said pulp suspension for the paper making process.
Abstract:
Provided herein are compositions useful for inhibiting the formation of gummy residues on equipment in processing operations which liberate tiny adhesive particles having a tendency to agglomerate into larger particles and/or films. The compositions comprise a complex or adduct formed from styrene/methacrylic acid copolymer and calcium ions. The compositions according to the invention may be added to a processing system at any point, either upstream or downstream from the location at which residues are formed. Compositions according to the invention may be applied by spray techniques.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a non-woven fabric, in which a predetermined pattern of a forming body is transferred to a non-woven fabric immediately after or simultaneously with its formation by urging the non-woven fabric onto the forming body with water jets.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for improving the ash characteristics of a paper wrapper for a smoking article and for improving the ash characteristics of the smoking article itself. Specifically, it has been unexpectedly discovered that the ash cohesiveness of a paper wrapper is noticeably improved when carbon fibers having an average length less than about 0.75 inches are incorporated into the paper in an amount up to about 60% by weight. Paper wrappers made with carbon fibers in accordance with the present invention have superior ash characteristics in comparison to paper wrappers incorporating only flax or other cellulosic fibers. Further, the ash cohesiveness of the paper is improved without resulting in the decline in the quality of other ash characteristics.
