A yarn supply system for a loom includes a yarn supply member changing apparatus for replacing a using yarn supply member with a new one when the weft yarn of the used yarn supply member has been used up or broken. The new yarn supply member is supplied to the yarn supply member changing apparatus at a mounting position from a self-propelled carriage. The new yarn supply member is carried to a yarn supply position by a carrying member movably mounted on the yarn supply member changing apparatus. A weft yarn wound on a bobbin forming part of the yarn supply member has a free tip end section which has been inserted into the central hole of the bobbin. The weft yarn tip end section of the yarn supply member at the yarn supply position of the yarn supply member changing position is drawn out of the bobbin and threaded into a weft winding arm forming part of a weft measuring and storing device under the influence of air stream. Thus, the weft yarn is supplied through the measuring and storing device to a weft inserting nozzle which projects the weft yarn into a warp yarn shed so as to accomplish a weft picking.

The device for winding weft thread on the spools of weft carriers is intended for use in travelling wave looms, wherein the weft carriers are driven by an endless chain conveyor. In the device, employed as the winding means is a rotatable hollow tube mounted in a rotary plate and carrying a thread guide whose outlet hole is located within the weft carrier at the level of the spool. Rotation of both the hollow tube and the plate, is imparted from the main shaft of the loom. The chain conveyor that moves the weft carriers is driven by U-shaped on the rotary plate. After winding the weft thread on the spools the hollow tube with the thread guide is stopped in a position, wherein the weft thread is laid into the thread tensioner of the weft carrier, moving towards the shed of the loom, and then into a weft end grip arranged on the plate, whereupon the weft thread is cut off near the thread tensioner. This enables a continuous control of the weft thread position and the cut-off weft end to be reliably gripped.

The instant invention relates to a bobbin alignment mechanism for use with bobbin handling equipment such as a bobbin winding machine. The alignment mechanism includes a plurality of alignment gates situated within the guideways of, say, a bobbin magazine to sequentially align the bobbin in the correct attitude within the magazine. The plurality of gates are sequentially movable from a bobbin holding position. Release of a downstream gate is actuated by movement of an upstream gate to its bobbin holding position under the weight of a bobbin supplied by a distribution chute above the upstream gate. Means are included on the distribution chute to release a holding catch engaging the upstream gate to release said upstream gate to its released position and thereby release of a bobbin to the downstream gate as the distribution chute is pivoted across the cells of said magazine.

Tearing of a weft thread between the main nozzle and the insert side of the selvage or insert end of the loom shed is to be avoided when the weft thread has not been properly woven into the fabric. The detection of a faulty weft thread stops the loom and such stopping must not tear the weft thread. For this purpose the signal caused by a faulty weft thread for the loom stoppage is also used for holding available a defined length of weft thread, whereby thread tearing is avoided. The loom is provided with a prespooling device equipped with an electrically controllable thread stopper and a second thread stopper which is adjustable in the circumferential direction and radially on the thread winding body of the prespooling device for providing the defined weft thread length.

An equipment for transporting, handling and feeding stock bobbins to a loom having a preparation station (5) for the charging of bobbin holders (12) with stock bobbins (4) and a transport loop (7) for transporting these bobbin holders (12) towards looms. The looms are arranged in groups and for returning bobbin holders (12') containing empty bobbin tubes towards the preparation station (5), as well as at least one storage section (7c) branching off the transport loop (7) for receiving a number of the bobbin holders (12, 12') which corresponds with the need of bobbins at the time by at least one of the groups of looms (1a, 1b, . . . 1n). For the exchange of the bobbin holders (12' or 12 respectively) on the looms a loading mechanism (18) is provided which is mounted on a secondary transport mechanism (10) which may be moved independently of the transport loop (7) towards a number of groups of looms (1a, 1b, . . . 1n) and is intended for temporarily receiving the bobbin holders (12, 12') which may be fed from and returned to the storage section (7c). Through this execution a simple clearly arranged method of construction of the equipment is achieved, which makes possible a loading of the looms with stock bobbins to match the needs, which may be automated in a simple manner.

A mechanism for feeding weft yarn stock bobbins to a loom includes a bobbin frame (3) for at least two stock bobbins (4) which may be fitted to bobbin holders (38) having longitudinal axes (L) which may be aligned on a common yarn guide member (6). The bobbin holders (38) are each formed on a bobbin carrier (10, 10') intended for receiving one of the stock bobbins (4) and able by means of a holder (30) of a charging mechanism to be fastened to the bobbin frame (3) and removed from the bobbin frame, the bobbin carrier having a yarn guide unit (45) for feeding the piece (A) at the start of the weft yarn (5) wound onto this stock bobbin (4) to the common yarn guide member (6). The yarn guide unit (45) is formed on a carrier part (44) able to swing between a normal position suitable for seizing the starting piece (A) and a deflected position in which in an operating position of the bobbin carrier (10, 10') predetermined on the bobbin frame (3) and aligned with the yarn guide member (6), the yarn guide unit (45) may be set in a definite yarn delivery position and may be brought together with the yarn guide member (6). A simplification of the charging process and delivery of the yarn is accordingly achievable.
