Abstract:
In a roller hearth furnace there is provided an apparatus for scavenging cold-drawn, coil-forming tubes. An essential element thereof is a pressure vessel (1; 1a) serving as reservoir for the scavenging agent, comprising a small calculable outlet opening (2) and a coupling member (3) connected with the tube coil (4).
Abstract:
A tube or pipe cleaning apparatus in which a rotatable conveyor drum is mounted within a container. The drum periphery is formed with pipe-receiving pockets, where a high pressure solution is simultaneously sprayed over, and within the pipes, to clean them.
Abstract:
Acid-soluble and/or hydrolyzable obstructions are removed from conduits by contacting such obstructions with a composition containing urea and sulfuric acid in which the urea/sulfuric acid molar ratio is less than 2. The urea/sulfuric acid compositions may optionally contain other components such as surfactants and/or non-aqueous polar solvents which accentuate the activity of the compositions toward hydrophobic materials. Urea-sulfuric acid compositions which contain water and which have H.sub.2 O/(urea+H.sub.2 SO.sub.4) molar ratios below about 2.5 are particularly useful for removing obstructions by partial or complete hydrolysis.

Abstract:
An apparatus for pickling the inner wall of a tubular member, for example, a zirconium or zircaloy tubular member as a cladding tube for nuclear fuel. The apparatus features the use of ultrasonic instruments for measuring the inner diameter of the tubular member while pickling the inner wall of the same. Owing to the interlocked association of the instruments and mechanism for supplying a pickling liquid into the tubular member, the supply of the pickling liquid can be stopped as soon as the inner diameter has reached a predetermined value. Various mechanisms may also be incorporated in the apparatus to minimize the temperature variation along the length of the tubular member and to improve the accuracy of the measurement by the instruments.
Abstract:
An apparatus for conveying tubular members along a plurality of treatment liquid tanks in pickling facilities. The apparatus includes a pair of guide rails and a travelling car adapted to reciprocate on the guide rails. The travelling car includes at least one pair of tube-supporting hooks which can be reciprocated upwardly and downwardly and turned between positions parallel to the rails and other positions perpendicular to the rails. The tube-supporting hooks can be lowered or raised independently so as to support the tubular members aslant near the treatment liquid level in each of the treatment liquid tanks, thereby allowing immersion of the tubular members into the treatment liquid or retraction of the tubular members out of the treatment liquid without forming considerable air bubbles in the liquid. Since such bubbles are known to develop stains on the tubular members, tubular members of high surface quality can be obtained. The above apparatus also permits a smooth, simple and efficient conveyance and loading and unloading of tubular members between the treatment liquid tanks.
Abstract:
An apparatus for continuously pickling the outer surfaces of hermetically plugged tubular members is described. The apparatus includes a plurality of liquid tanks which separately contain different pickling liquids and define through-holes in their respective front and rear walls on at least one common longitudinal line to permit the successive passage of the tubular members therethrough while rotating them around their respective longitudinal axes. The apparatus includes a cleaning tank and cleaning brush unit provided sequentially before the liquid tanks. The cleaning tank includes at least one ultrasonic cleaning oscillator and defines through-holes in the front and rear walls thereof for allowing said tubular members to pass through the cleaning tank and the brush unit. Since any oil, grease or dust can be completely removed by the cleaning tank and brush unit prior to pickling, it is possible to obtain tubular members having excellent outer surface quality.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for internal washing or cleaning and rinsing or drying of tubular materials.Particularly the invention relates to a method for washing or cleaning of tubular materials when a washing or a cleaning medium is brought to circulate in a washing or a cleaning system. Furthermore a purification of the washing or cleaning medium and a rinsing or drying medium is effected in a tank for the washing or cleaning medium.
Abstract:
An apparatus and process for etching the inner surface of a pipe or tubular member includes a primary pipe adapted to be connected with a pipe or pipes whose inner surfaces are to be treated, and treating-solution supply pipes communicating, by means of electromagnetic valves, with the aforenoted primary pipe, whereby one path for a specific solution to be fed through one of the treating-solution supply pipes by means of the primary pipe into the pipe to be treated is automatically switched to another path by means of the aforenoted electromagnetic valves, without causing mixing of one solution with another. This apparatus and process therefore provides improved operational efficiency as well as a uniform surface condition and achieves accurate dimensioning for the inner surface of the pipe to be treated.
