    Abstract: By providing a single biasing element (spring) connected through pull rods to toggle means in laterally-inverted relationship, there are overcome the problems of (1) inequality of forces on the latching beams and (2) the need for relatively massive springs. The toggle means provide a force-multiplying effect. Moreover, no special actuating element is required for latching or unlatching.

    Abstract: In a coke oven coke side door machine, a bottom tray is mounted to collect spillage that results from the removal of coke oven doors as well as the residue buildup that is scraped from the door seals and bottom plugs during the door cleaning operation. Trays, in the form of inclined planes, are extended from the door machine to catch the coke spillage from the oven and to catch the residue buildup which is scraped from the door jambs during the jamb cleaning operations. This material gravitates down the trays into the catch pan. A scraper then pushes the material accumulated in the catch pan to one end of that catch pan where a conveyor carries it to a dump bucket. The dump bucket can be dumped when the door machine is positioned adjacent a quench car. All of the above apparatus is mounted onto and within the confines of the door machine.

    Abstract: An extendible hopper is mounted to the undercarriage of a pusher machine and is operable to be extended to engage the face of the coke oven battery, between the buckstays and just below the door jamb, to catch hot coke that spills out of coke ovens as the door is removed and the pusher ram is retracted. A bin is also mounted to the undercarriage of the pusher machine to receive the hot coke collected by the extendible hopper. Quench sprays are mounted to the bin to quench the hot coke, and suction means are mounted to the bin to draw off pollutants that emanate from the hot coke and the quench thereof.

    Abstract: A device for the removal of a coke-oven door, engaging the door frame of a coking chamber by one or more swingable latch arms that are axially loaded by Belleville springs, comprises a support carrying one or more unlatching heads alignable with the swing axes of respective latch arms along which that body can be moved toward and away from the door by a hydraulic jack linked with a fixed or separately movable base. Each unlatching head comprises a gripper rod axially movable inside a pressure sleeve by means of a hydraulic actuator. The gripper rod has a pair of claws which, when that rod is brought into contact with a knob on a pivot stud of the associated latch arm, are cammable into engagement with this knob by a forward thrusting of the pressure sleeve through the hydraulic actuator. The sleeve then comes to bear upon a collar surrounding the pivot stud whereby an extension of this collar compresses the Belleville springs behind the latch to relieve their pressure upon that arm. The latch arm is now swingable out of frictional engagement with the door frame to facilitate the removal of the door from its frame by the receding support.
