The present invention provides an adhesive composition for use in bonding a polymeric fitting to an olefin-containing component of an article used in medical applications. The adhesive composition according to the invention includes an adhesive polymer system dissolved in a solvent system. The solvent system includes an organic solvent having a solubility parameter within the range of from about 7.5 to about 10 (cal/cm3)1/2. Subsequent to forming a bond between the polymeric fitting and the olefin-containing component, the adhesive composition can meet the requirements for USP Class VI materials. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the adhesive composition includes a low shear mixture of an adhesive polymer system including an atactic polypropylene and a low density polyethylene that is dissolved in a solvent system including a blend of d-limonene and a ketone selected from the group consisting of 4-heptanone and cyclohexanone. The adhesive composition can be used, for example, to bond polymeric fittings made of materials such as, but not limited to, acrylic, polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride, polyolefin, acrylonitrile butadiene-styrene, and polyester, to olefin-containing components of articles used in medical applications such as, but not limited to, tubing.

A high solids content composition containing a fluoroelastomer, a solvent, and a low solvent absorptine filler is workable to fill voids, coat, adhere, seal, and protect various substrates from chemical permeation, corrosion, abrasion, etc. in horizontal or vertical applications. The fluoroelastomer component comprises copolymers of hexafluoropropylene and vinylidene flouride and/or terpolymers of hexafluoropropylene, vinylidene fluoride, and tetrafluoroethylene. The solids content of the composition is at least about 75%. The composition may include a curing agent to solidify the composition.

A novel class of interpenetrating polymer networks which are dispersible in conventional coating solvents is disclosed. Such dispersions are useful in preparing protective and/or decorative film coatings and are particularly useful in photosensitive or imaging formulations such as photoresists, solder masks and the like. These polymer networks are comprised of at least two interpenetrating crosslinked polymers. At least one of the polymer networks is formed by polymerization in a solvent. In one embodiment of this invention, at least one polymer network is prepared from macromers to produce a polymer system having functionalized branch or graft linear segments. The solvent dispersible interpenetrating networks of this invention are particularly useful as binders in addition polymerizable photosensitive compositions containing crosslinking monomers such as solder masks. Upon exposure to actinic radiation and suitable thermal curing, solder mask coatings of such photosensitive compositions form multiple, e.g., triple, interpenetrating polymer networks having superior toughness and flexibility.
