摘要： A pinion of a pretensioner is provided at a side of a torsion shaft, which side is opposite a side connected integrally to a spool via a sleeve. A base lock of a lock mechanism is connected to the pinion. Due to the lock mechanism operating, a leg plate side end portion of the torsion shaft is locked. In this way, due to operation of the pretensioner, the pinion, which is connected to a rotating portion of a sleeve, also is locked by the locking mechanism. Therefore, a piston of the pretensioner is not lowered, and internal pressure of a cylinder does not affect deformation of the torsion shaft.

The webbing retractor has: a frame in which a pair of leg plates, which are disposed so as to face one another, are connected by a back plate so as to be integral; a spool which is disposed between the pair of leg plates, one end of the webbing belt being anchored to the spool; a driving mechanism which is disposed between the pair of leg plates and has an output shaft and which is for rotating the spool in at least a take-up direction; and a clutch disposed between the pair of leg plates, transmitting rotation of the output shaft to the spool. Because a motor and gears can be disposed between the leg plates of the frame, the webbing retractor can be made compact.

摘要： A webbing of a seat belt engages an opening of a seat belt tension sensor. In one embodiment, the webbing is bunched or folded so as to prevent rubbing against the sides of the opening in the housing and anchor plate, or an outer surface of the seat belt tension sensor. The webbing is maintained in a bunched or folded state using either a set of stitches between the two portions of the webbing of the loop; separate sets of stitches in the respective separate portions; a ring enclosing the two portions; separate rings, or ring portions separated by a spacer, enclosing the respective separate portions; or a sleeve, thimble, or thimble portion of the carriage of the seat belt tension sensor engaging the bunched or folded webbing. In another embodiment, the openings in the housing and anchor plate are sufficiently wider than the opening in the carriage, and the carriage incorporates a flange.

A piston (78) and piston rod (58) are movable in a first direction to move the strap (50) and the part (36) to tension the seat belt (20). A pivot connection (59, 62) between the piston rod (58) and the strap (50) causes the strap to move with the piston rod. A cam (70) pivots the strap (50) about the pivot connection (59, 62) and effects movement of the part (36) toward the piston rod (58) as the piston (78) and the piston rod move in the first direction.

摘要： A seat belt device includes a lap anchor and connector assembly that are engaged by a latch pressed by a first latch spring. In the event that inertia force is applied to the connector assembly in a direction that tends to urge the disengagement of the connector assembly and the lap anchor, the latch tries to move in the direction of disengagement. The attempted movement causes retaining shoulder portions of the latch to abut against latch holding portions of a second latch spring, thereby preventing movement of the latch in the direction of disengagement. Thus, engagement of the connector assembly and the lap anchor is stable, and disengagement of the connector assembly and the lap anchor is prevented.

摘要： An operating system and method for a vehicle safety device that includes a housing having a duct, one or more pistons in the duct and a gas generator that has two stages. The first stage is ignited conventionally, but the second stage is ignited automatically with a delay directly responsive to the first stage ignition. The gas generated is fed to a common space in the housing where it drives the piston(s). Each piston has an associated axially spaced thimble with a load limiter between. A cable is connected to each vehicle safety device and to each thimble. When the system is operated, each piston is driven to move its associated thimble away to draw the cable from the associated vehicle safety device to actuate it. However, if a counter force on the cable becomes excessive, the thimble moves closer to the piston and the excessive pressure is relieved under the control of the load limiter.
