摘要： A plurality of control levers are pivotally mounted, on a common shaft, extending transversely of the path of movement of an original for deflection by the leading edge thereof, Each lever has a respective electric switch associated therewith for actuation responsive to deflection of the lever. The leading edge of each original is formed with one or more forwardly opening recesses, representing a binary code, with the recesses being arranged in groups, each group corresponding, for example, to units, ten, hundreds, etc. The recesses effect delayed deflection of the correspondingly located levers and corresponding delayed actuation of the associated electric switches. After each lever not opposite a recess has been deflected by the leading edge of an original, a transverse rod is engaged beneath hooked end of the deflected levers and a frame mounting both the deflected levers and the non-deflected levers is pivoted to move all of the levers out of the path of movement of the original. Only certain electric switches are actuated in accordance with those levers corresponding to the recesses in the leading edge of the original. The switches may be connected to a value storage, or the switches and the actuating levers therefor may constitute a value storage and be used in a coincidence circuit arrangement with corresponding switches actuated by a mechanical counter which counts the number of copies. When the number of copies reproduced is equal to the number set in the value storage, the reproduction is interrupted and all of the levers are returned to their initial positions. The forwardly opening recesses may be Ushaped, V-shaped, or rectangular.

摘要： Dials may be set to indicate a number of copies to be made from a printing plate for an offset press. As the plate passes through a plate-making machine detectors note its arrival at a printing station where solenoid-activated printing or punching bars print or punch indicia on the plate at a location outside the portion of the plate to be printed. The position of the indicia is governed by the dial setting which determines which solenoid circuits are energized during a printing step. The indicia may be read by an attachment on the offset press, which is then set automatically to produce a desired number of copies from the printing plate.

摘要： A printing machine is provided for imprinting forms with fixed data from embossed printing plates and variable data from manually settable print wheels by moving a roller platen from a start position across the printing elements and the form to an actuated position to perform a printing operation and back to the start position to complete a printing cycle. The print wheels are selectively positionable by keyset levers movable from a zero position to a selected printing position for rotating each of the print wheels to a desired peripheral setting. Reset means is provided for restoring each of the keyset levers from the selected printing position to the zero position in response to movement of the roller platen through a printing operation, and lock-out means is provided to inhibit movement of the roller platen through a printing operation following a printing cycle. The roller platen is unlocked for movement in response to movement of at least one of the keyset levers from the zero position to a new setting.

摘要： A keyboard assembly for selecting characters to be recorded includes a substrate carrying an array of characters arranged on one face thereof. A character selection device moves between advanced and retracted positions along each of two axes of the array and, by means of an optical viewfinder, registers a given character with respect to the position of the selecting device. Registration openings distributed along each of the two axes cooperate with an associated detent carried by the selecting device so as to retain the selecting device in a fixed position relative to the locus of the character which has been selected. Movement of the character selection device to the locus of a given character serves to control the recording of the character selected. Control of the recording of a selected character can be by positioning of print elements in response to the movement of the selection device, by generating signals identifying the locus of the selected character, or by transducing information signals identifying the selected character. A single operating device associated with the entire array of characters controls the recording of the characters. A keyboard as described has been mounted to be interchangeable with keyboards employing other fonts of characters.
