摘要: An electrically isolated development electrode is disposed immediately adjacent a charge image bearing surface of a charge image bearing structure having a conductive backing. The charge image induces a second charge image in the development electrode and produces an image electric field in the development gap between the first and second charge images. The second charge image further induces a background charge distribution in the backing member of opposite sign to that of the first charge image. An insulative web is disposed in the development gap to receive electroscopic pigment particles for printing either a positive or a negative print of the first charge image. Additional copies may be printed on successively introduced insulative webs without dissipating the first charge image.

摘要: An accounting machine includes means for magnetically recording a new balance on an accounting form and for later sensing the recording to enter such balance into the accumulator of the machine. The magnetic recording is made by impressing deposits of magnetic material from a ribbon onto the form, which deposits are configured so as to be visually readable to facilitate manual checking.

摘要: A MEMS mirror for a laser printing application includes providing a CMOS substrate including a pair of electrodes, and providing a reflecting mirror moveable over the substrate and the electrodes. Voltages applied to the electrodes create an electrostatic force causing an end of the mirror to be attracted to the substrate. A precise position of the mirror can be detected and controlled by sensing a change in capacitance between the mirror ends and the underlying electrodes.

摘要: A phase change ink transfer printing apparatus (10) applies a liquid intermediate transfer surface (12) to a heated drum (14, 28). Because the intermediate transfer surface is a thin liquid layer, molten ink drops (122) striking it flatten and spread out (110, 112, 114, 130) prior to cooling and solidifying as an ink image (26, 130) at the drum temperature. After the ink image is deposited, a print medium (21, 132), such as a transparency film, is fed into a nip (22) formed between the heated drum and an elastomeric transfer roller (23). As the drum turns, the print medium is pulled through the nip to transfer the ink image to the print medium. When in the nip, heat from the drum and print medium combine to heat the ink in accordance with a process window (90), making the ink sufficiently soft and tacky to adhere to the print medium but not to the drum. The ink drops comprising the ink image have a desired diameter to height ratio of from about 1.5:1 to greater than about 4:1 using the apparatus and method of printing disclosed. When the print medium leaves the nip, stripper fingers (24) peel it from the drum and direct it into a media exit path. No image post processing or fusing is necessary to achieve a high-quality print suitable for transparency projection.

摘要: The printer comprises a solid or liquid ink jet head 100 arranged to print one dot at a time on paper running over a platen 80. The head is carried by a carriage 48 movable transversely with simple harmonic reciprocating motion. In order to reduce the effect of inertial forces when the carriage reverses its movement, the drive is effected by an eccentric peg 70 on a disc 276, the peg engaging in a guide slot 54 of the carriage perpendicular to the direction of reciprocation. An eccentric can track 71 in the disc engages a peg 92 on a counterweight 90 for counterbalancing the inertial forces of the carriage. In order to synchronize the printing operation with the carriage movement, an optical strobe disco 258 is rigid with the disc 276 and has slots 258 disposed at a pitch varying according to the harmonic motion. The platen 80 in rotated intermittently by a helical cam 277 carried by the disc 276 and a peg wheel 280, 281. In order to compensate for discharge of a smoothing or reservoir circuit feeding the printing head 100, the duration of the pulses applied thereto can be increased in accordance with the rate at which dots are being printed. In a modification the strobe disc is replaced by a linear transducer of capacitive type, with one part carried by the carriage.

摘要: A non-impact printing method with selective emission of solid ink particles is disclosed. A rod of solid ink is spring-pressed in an insulating housing against an end wall with a nozzle therein. A pulsed high voltage applied between the ink rod and a counter-electrode (which can be behind a paper target) causes ink particles to be eroded from the rod and ejected through the nozzle onto the paper. The method includes incremental line-feed paper movement, movement of printing devices as just described along the printing line, and selective control of the high-voltage pulsing such as to form characters by a dot matrix technique.

摘要: A non-impact printing device with selective emission of solid ink particles is disclosed. A rod 19 of solid ink is pressed by a spring 20 in an insulating housing II against an end wall with a nozzle 13 therein. A pulsed high voltage applied between the ink rod and a counter-electrode 16 (which can be behind the paper 25) causes ink particles to be eroded from the rod and ejected through the nozzle on the paper. Printers are described which employ incremental line-feed paper movement, movement of printing devices as just described along the printing line, and selective control of the high-voltage pulsing such as to form characters by a dot matrix technique.

摘要: An ink feed system for an electrophoretic printer wherein a ribbon is used to carry ink from an ink supply to the paper upon which it is applied by means of an electric field. A magnetic constituent is added to the ink and a magnetic field is impressed alongside the ribbon and parallel to the surface thereof. A Hall probe positioned in the magnetic field senses perturbations thereof perpendicular to the ribbon induced by the presence of ink on the ribbon. A signal produced by the Hall probe signals the density of the ink upon the ribbon and is utilized for regulating a flow of ink onto the ribbon.

摘要: A toner supply container detachably mountable to an image forming apparatus includes a container body with a discharge opening formed thereon. A sealing member, which unsealably seals the discharge opening, includes an engageable projection engageable with an engaging member provided in the image forming apparatus and a support for displaceably supporting the engageable portion. The sealing member is moved relative to the container body away therefrom to unseal the discharge opening. The engageable projection is engaged with the engaging member. A releasing projection, is provided in the supporting member, for receiving, from a releasing member provided in the image forming apparatus, a force for displacing the engageable projection in a direction of disengagement from the engaging member.
