摘要： A carriage return device in a typewriter including: an interposer operable through operation of a key lever for the carriage return; a cycle bail driven by the interposer; a driving source adapted to rotate a main shaft by a predetermined number of rotations in association with the cycle bail; a cycle clutch for intermittently transmitting a driving force to the main shaft; an actuating bail for performing a cycle of movement having a locus of a predetermined mode to cause the interposer to disengage from the cycle bail; a carriage return bell crank for operating in association with the interposer when the interposer moves in the direction of disengaging from the cycle bail; a carriage return clutch operable by the carriage return bell crank; a carriage driving device for driving the carriage to return through operation of the carriage return clutch; and a mechanism for operating to return the carriage return bell crank upon completion of carriage return; wherein the carriage return device further includes a mechanism for releasing the carriage from an escapement rack in association with the carriage return bell crank.

摘要： A control system for a dot matrix line printer having one print element for each character position on the line; a single-line memory stores the data words for a line of characters and those data words are supplied to a character signal generator sequentially to print the dots for an initial matrix position in a c.times.r matrix for all characters, whereupon the print elements are shifted one column increment along the print line. This procedure is repeated for each dot matrix position, the record sheet being advanced one row increment each time c column positions have been printed. After completion of c.multidot.r scans, printing of a full line of characters is complete, the single-line memory is cleared, and the process is started again for the next line of characters, after a line-space feed of the record sheet.

摘要： A lightweight, extremely compact printer apparatus has a constant speed drive which imparts reversible, translatory motion to a print head; and as the print head is advanced with respect to a platen imparts a direct mechanical drive to a paper advancing roller in order to advance paper from a feed roll line by line between printing operations. In turn, advancement of the paper or other recording medium from the paper roll drives a print ribbon supply holder to advance a print ribbon across the platen in front of the paper. The power requirements and size of the apparatus are substantially reduced to the extent that the apparatus is of a size corresponding to hand held calculator printers, since the movement of each element is utilized to drive another element successively from the print head carrier, paper advancement roller, paper roll to the print ribbon in close correlation to one another during each print cycle.

摘要： A serial impact printer of the type utilizing a dot matrix print head is specifically adaptable for use as a calculator or adding machine and is characterized by utilizing a common drive source to advance the print head across the paper, advance the paper between printing operations, and selectively advance the print ribbon between the ribbon supply spool and takeup spool. An improved paper-advancing means has been devised which operates in close correlation with the print head drive member to provide a relatively high speed, simplified and inexpensive printer unit; and the ribbon supply spools are so constructed and arranged as to be interchangeable and to permit direct drive through a spool-engaging member on the print head whereby to advance the ribbon in direct response to print head travel.

A cam mechanism is used to provide simplified control over paper feeding operations. A print head carriage is driven by a belt drive gear assembly that also drives the paper feed cam directly. 摘要： An apparatus which may be used, for example, for feeding a record medium in a printer. The apparatus includes a rotatable member having means thereon for connection to the platen of the printer, and also having teeth on the periphery thereof and a driving surface thereon. The apparatus also includes a rotatable driving unit having at least one driving member or camming lug thereon to engage the teeth and thereby incrementally rotate the rotatable member as the driving unit is rotated. The apparatus further includes a coupling means moveable between first and second positions whereby the coupling means is operatively disconnected from the driving unit and the rotatable member when the coupling means is in the first position, and whereby the coupling means when in the second position is effective to disconnect the camming lug from the teeth and to also operatively connect the driving unit with the driving surface to continuously rotate the rotatable member as the driving unit is rotated.
