The cutting mechanism may include a first blade (41) with a first cutting direction and a second blade (42) with a second cutting direction different from the first cutting direction.

An apparatus for cutting packages includes a first drive shaft for driving a first cutting blade and a second drive shaft, arranged parallel to the first drive shaft, for driving a second cutting blade, where the second cutting blade is mounted rotatably about a rotation axis. The apparatus also includes an adjusting device assigned to the second cutting blade and having a movable actuating element. The actuating element is adapted to adjust a position of the second cutting blade and/or a pressing force of the second cutting blade on the first cutting blade and the actuating element is mounted movably along a direction parallel to the rotation axis and at a distance from the rotation axis.

A converting machine is used to convert sheet material into packaging templates for assembly into boxes or other packaging. The converting machine includes a converting assembly that performs transverse conversion functions and longitudinal conversion functions on the sheet material to create the packaging templates. A fanfold crease sensing mechanism detects the presence and location of fanfold creases in the sheet material. Based on the location of the fanfold creases, the fanfold creases are either cut out of the sheet material, or the sheet material is cut to adjust the position of the fanfold crease in a packaging template.

A microtome system has a cryomicrotome with a sectioning device in which is provided a preparation holder and a knife edge that are guided past one another inside a working space during a sectioning operation, in order to produce thin sections of a preparation retained in the preparation holder. A micromanipulator is operable outside the working space. With the micromanipulator, a tool for retention of a specimen support is positioned proximate the knife edge during a sectioning operation in order to receive the sections that are produced, preferably for substantially stationary retention of the specimen support.

A method includes using a feed system to feed a tubing holder toward a cutting system. A plurality of sections of tubing are coupled at intervals along a first spine of the tubing holder, each of the plurality of sections of tubing extending away from the first spine in a direction that is transverse to a feed direction of the feed system. The method also includes using the cutting system to cut a first section of tubing of the plurality of sections of tubing. The cutting system cuts the first section of tubing at a plurality of locations to separate a plurality of subsections of the first section of tubing.

An apparatus for cutting bread into slices includes at least one circular blade which rotates in a cutting plane and is guided between a feed section feeding the bread to be sliced to the blade and a removal section receiving the cut slices of bread. At least one advancing device advances the bread from the feed section towards the knife. The advancing device is designed such that, between two cutting instances, it advances the uncut bread and then withdraws it such that the actually exposed front end of the uncut bread is advanced across the cutting plane by an advance path greater than the predetermined slice thickness and is then withdrawn counter to the direction of advance of the bread.

The web member has a plurality of fibers including tows along a predetermined direction intersecting the intersecting direction. The apparatus includes a disc-like rotatable blade member for cutting the web member by relatively moving in the intersecting direction with respect to the web member while rotating about a rotation shaft, the rotation shaft extending along the predetermined direction, the rotatable blade member including a cutting edge on an outer circumferential edge portion thereof, a plurality of recess portions being formed on the cutting edge, the plurality of recess portions being arranged along a circumferential direction of the rotatable blade member, a mean value of lengths of the plurality of recess portions in the circumferential direction being smaller than a mean value of diameters of the tows contained in the web member.
