Abstract: The present invention is directed to a handheld railway spike puller. The spike puller is adapted to operate for pulling of a railway spike from a sleeper and its associated sleeper plate. The spike puller is adapted for coupling with a rotational driver in the form of battery-powered impact wrench. The spike puller generally includes a housing assembly being generally elongate and at a proximal end adapted for detachable coupling with the impact wrench, a drive screw substantially housed within the housing assembly, and arranged for rotation via the impact wrench, a slide assembly including an internal thread configured to engage an external thread of the drive screw which on rotation in a forward direction and a reverse direction effects sliding movement of the slide assembly within the housing assembly between an extended position and a retracted position, respectively. The internal and external threads are designed on rotation of the drive screw in the forward direction to release from one another in the extended position of the slide assembly. Biasing means includes a spring operatively coupled to the drive screw. The biasing means is arranged on release of the internal and external threads to urge the slide assembly in the extended position axially toward the drive screw.

Abstract: A tool for extracting a pin inserted in a component bore extending into a pin receiving component, the tool comprising: a pin gripping element configurable between a released configuration in which the pin and the pin gripping element are movable relative to each other and a gripping configuration in which the pin gripping element grips the pin; a base element for abutting against the pin receiving component; and a gripping element mount mounting the pin gripping element to the base element, the gripping element mount being configurable between a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein, in the first configuration, the pin gripping element is substantially adjacent to the base element, and in the second configuration, the pin gripping element is further away from the base element than in the first configuration. Abstract: A staple remover for extracting a conventional clinched office staple having a central crown portion and two legs extending with arcuate bends from opposite ends of the crown through staple holes in the stapled set of paper sheets, the remover having a first member with two spaced apart prongs inserted between the crown of the staple and the stapled set, and a second member pivotally mounted for movement relative to the first member, and including a nose member moving between and closely adjacent to, but spaced from, the two spaced prongs. Abstract: A laparoscopic surgical staple system comprises a staple, a staple extractor, and methods of applying and extracting such staples. The staples of the present invention are visible through a limited viewport, such as a trocar, and include an extraction member which forms a substantially closed hole through which a hook can be inserted. The staple extractor of the present invention includes a mechanism for grasping and pulling to remove the staple from body tissue, and a hook which can receive and hold multiple staples. The staples are applied by a device which is capable of inserting the staple's legs into a patient's body tissue. Staples are extracted using methods which allow multiple staples to be removed in a single, quick laparoscopic procedure and which reduce the risk of infection to the patient.

Abstract: A nail puller pulls nails from a board or the like by gripping the nail shank. The nail puller comprises a block with a gripping surface and a foot that is pivotally connected to the block. A long handle is joined to the foot. The foot and handle are pivotable to an open configuratoin whereat a space is defined between the block gripping surface and the foot. With the foot in the open configuration, the space is positioned over the nail shank, and the nail puller is lowered onto the board or the like. The handle and foot are pivoted to a closed configuration whereat the foot is proximate the block gripping surface to grip the nail shank therebetween. A strong force applied to the handle causes the block and foot to rotate as a unit about a fulcrum on the board or the like to pull out the nail. The undersurface of the block is curved such that the block rolls along the board or the like as it rotates to extract the nail. The foot or block gripping surface may be serrated to better grip the nail shank.

Abstract: A staple remover for removing a staple from an object includes an elongate member which is progressively forced under a crown of the staple. The elongate member is preferably a larger claw member which cooperates with a smaller claw member in a pincer-like action. A protrusion or expanding member is provided on each lateral side of the elongate member with the distance between the protrusions being greater than the length of the crown of the staple and ending at a distance from the camming surface of the elongate member which is less than the length of a leg of the staple. Preferably, the protrusion extends generally parallel to the associated camming surface from adjacent the tip to a maximum protruding height which occurs where the distance between the associated camming surface and bearing surface is approximately 40 to 60% of the length of a leg of the staple. A groove is also provided in each lateral side which is spaced from the associated camming surface by a distance less than the length of a leg of the staple and into which the removed legs of the staple are received. Where the staple remover is pincer-like, the smaller claw members also preferably similarly formed with a protrusion. Overall, the distance between the protrusions is about 5 to 20% greater than the length of a crown of the staple.
