    摘要: Metal ingots for forming single-crystal shape-memory alloys (SMAs) may be fabricated with high reliability and control by alloying thin layers of material together. In this improved method, a reactive layer (e.g., aluminum) is provided in thin flat layers between layers of other materials (e.g., copper and layers of nickel). When the stacked layers are vacuum heated in a crucible to the melting temperature of the reactive layer, it becomes reactive and chemically bonds to the other layers, and may form eutectics that, as the temperature is further increased, melt homogeneously and congruently at temperatures below the melting temperatures of copper and nickel. Oxidation and evaporation are greatly reduced compared to other methods of alloying, and loss of material from turbulence is minimized.

    摘要: A method for the production of ingots, hollow or made of a plurality of metallic materials, of a first metallic material which includes the following phases: casting a first metallic material in liquid state into an ingot mould provided with a heat insulated bottom; allowing the aforesaid first metallic material to solidify only partially to obtain, in the centre of the ingot mould, a substantially cylindrical zone of said first material still in liquid state; discharge said substantially cylindrical zone of said first material still in liquid state, to form a substantially cylindrical cavity in the ingot. Subsequent cooling of the already solidified metallic material remaining in the ingot mould makes it possible to obtain an ingot equipped with a cylindrical through cavity perfectly coaxial to the ingot obtained.

    摘要: A device for casting composite cast rolls includes a vertically elongated mold having a top opening and a filling funnel connected into a tangential bottom inflow passage for the shell material and a bottom valve for closing a bottom discharge. The shell material is directed into the mold through the filling funnel and bottom inflow passage to flow upwardly in the mold to the level of the top of the shell portion of the article to be cast, after the bottom valve is closed to close off the discharge. The shell material is permitted to harden to a certain thickness and the bottom discharge valve is opened to drain the shell material and the core material is poured into the mold from the top opening. During the pouring of the core material, means in the form of a siphon are provided for controlling the outflow rate of the material through the bottom discharge. The siphon comprises a connecting conduit connected to the bottom discharge and having an upwardly extending bend which is made up of a plurality of interfitted parts so that the height thereof may be varied. The top of the syphon bend is arranged at a predetermined distance from the top of the mold, and the outlet for the syphon is controlled so as to regulate the amount of material which is directed out through the discharge during the pouring of the core material.
