摘要: In a device for the automatic production of dental replacement parts, a blank 13 is fitted in a substantially plate-shaped carrier body 10 which is so dimensioned that the blank 13 does not exceed the carrier body 10 in any direction. The carrier body 10 serves not only for holding the blank 13 in the working machine but also for protecting it during its automatic handling in magazines or the like. The carrier body 10 is provided with a bar code 20 which relates to the material and dimensions of the blank 13 and may identify data according to which the blank 13 is to be worked The bar code 20 is adapted to be changed by the working machine so as to prevent the carrier body 10 from being reused with the same or a different blank 13.

摘要: A method and apparatus for arch wire receptacle (e.g., brackets, bands, headgear tubes, etc.) optimization includes processing that begins by obtaining a digital model of an orthodontic structure of an orthodontic patient. The processing then continues by retrieving a digital model of an initial arch wire receptacle that was selected from a plurality of digital models of arch wire receptacles. The processing then continues by digitally placing the digital model of the initial arch wire receptacle on a given tooth of the digital model of the orthodontic structure to provide a digital arch wire receptacle placement. The process then proceeds by retrieving a digital model of an arch wire. For the given tooth, the processing continues by digitally modeling a force system on the tooth based on the digital model of the initial arch wire receptacle, the digital arch wire receptacle placement, and the digital model of the arch wire. Having done this, when the force system is not optimal, the force system is modified to achieve an optimal forced system.

摘要: An orthodontic arch wire composed of stainless steel or other bendable alloy formed into an arc is provided with lines permanently etched, or otherwise permanently marked, across its long dimension, and/or outward-facing surfaces at intervals approximating the midpoint at which adjacent teeth contact each other when normally aligned. When the arch wire is removed from the patient's mouth for periodic adjustments, the etch marks provide accurate, stable, and permanent landmarks for placement of adjustment bends for three-dimensional movements of individual teeth. In order to accommodate a range of tooth and dental arch sizes, the arch wires are of small, medium, and large sizes for both upper and lower arch forms with the markings proportioned for small, medium, and large tooth sizes.

摘要: An appliance used in orthodontic treatment includes a retaining groove that is located directly adjacent a base of the appliance. The retaining groove is useful for keeping a wire segment or other item in place and in contact with a body of the appliance so that the item does not detach from the appliance during the course of treatment. The retaining groove is particularly useful for keeping tieback loops and other items having a thread-like configuration in a captive, compact and snug relationship with the appliance.

摘要: A gauge for measuring and/or marking teeth or models of teeth for the determination of the placement of attachments for orthodontic braces. The gauge has a first arm with a gauge element with a longitudinal extension portion lying on a first axis and a vertical extension portion extending generally perpendicularly from the first axis of the longitudinal extension portion. The gauge has a second arm which has a pointer or marking element at an end thereof, the pointer element having a tip which is spaced apart from the longitudinal extension portion of the first arm, the first and second arm being connected together to maintain the spaced apart relationship between the tip of marking element and the longitudinal extension portion with the vertical extension portion extending towards the pointer or marking element. The invention also provides a gauge element for converting a bow divider into a gauge for measuring and/or marking teeth for the determination of the placement of attachments for orthodontic braces. The gauge element has an elongate extension portion lying on a first axis and a vertical extension portion extending generally perpendicularly to the first axis of the elongate extension portion with the vertical extension portion extending outwardly between about 2.00 mm and 3.00 mm from the longitudinal extension portion.

摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for processing solid materials in general, and of dental material in particular, which involves applying radiation from a laser or other suitable pulsed radiation source to process and to preferably ablate the material in a region of processing thereof. Particles of ablation are generated by the radiation from the area of processing and/or other source(s) which are directed to the area of processing to further process the material. Particles adhering to a tip through which the radiation is applied, to a reflector or other surfaces adjacent the region of processing at the end of each radiation pulse may be ablated and accelerated back to the region of processing by the next pulse. Ablation particles may also be obtained from the ablation of the tip, from a strip of material through which radiation passes before reaching the region of processing or from other sources. Mechanism may also be provided for cooling the surface of the material in the region of processing between radiation pulses and/or during such pulses and/or for facilitating removal of particles in the area between the chip and the region of processing between radiation pulses.

摘要: An instrument and method for curing light-curable compounds in the mouth of a patient, the instrument comprising a housing and a plurality of solid state, light-emitting elements on a substrate supported by the housing. The elements form a collective array on the substrate operable for collectively emitting light having wavelengths within a narrow band of wavelengths. An optical focusing device is positioned to intercept the light emitted by the array of elements and includes a non-imaging optical device which is operable for collimating the light from the array into a beam to be directed onto a compound for curing the compound. A disposable sleeve covers the housing and array and may incorporate the optical focusing device. The sleeve is removed and discarded after use to eliminate the need to autoclave the instrument.
