Abstract:
A hair roller system that comprises a hair roller having a heating element, a battery, and a signal receiver is described. In one embodiment, the hair roller system also comprises a signal output device that allows a user to activate a hair roller to heat after being placed in their hair. Activating a heating element in a hair roller after it is placed in a person's hair avoids burns and discomfort from handling excessively hot rollers. In some embodiments, a hair roller may comprise an on/off switch, a temperature set point feature, and/or a heat duration set point feature.
Abstract:
By providing a hair curler/roller which comprises a unique, distinctive construction that enables the hair roller/curler to be heated substantially more rapidly than prior art constructions, an easily used, hair curler/roller and heating system is obtained which is capable of providing rapid heating of the hair curler/roller. In addition, the heating system employed for transferring heat to the hair curler/roller is also constructed in a unique manner that optimizes heat transfer, while also being constructed efficiently and inexpensively. In accordance with the present invention, the hair curler/roller incorporates an elongated cylindrically shaped body or core formed from heat retaining metal, such as aluminum. In addition, the cylindrical body incorporates a plurality of thin, interconnected wall members peripherally surrounded by a cylindrical outer wall. Preferably, the unique metal core is easily manufactured by extrusion, thereby achieving a hair roller/curler which is easily constructed as well as capable of absorbing and retaining heat rapidly and efficiently.
Abstract:
Provided is a hairdressing appliance, which includes a portable treatment unit provided with a gripping device and a heat and steam treatment system configured for heating hair and for applying steam to this hair, a base remote from the portable treatment unit, and connection device between the base and the portable treatment unit configured for supplying the portable treatment unit at least with electricity from the base. The hairdressing appliance includes a circuit board for controlling the treatment system arranged in the base and a system of communication between the control circuit board and the treatment system. The hairdressing appliance enables, for example, the straightening, curling, or crimping of hair and chiefly aims to reduce the weight and the bulk of the portable treatment unit so as to make it easier to handle during styling.
Abstract:
The hair care appliance of this invention has a housing, which holds a set of hair curlers and encloses electrical heating means for heating the curlers, and has a transparent cover which covers the set of curlers and the top of the housing. Each curler has a reversibly thermochromic thermoplastic elastomeric surface layer (around which hair is to be curled) which preferably covers a mandrel portion of a thermoplastic body. The thermoplastic body has ends of larger diameter than the mandrel portion of the body, and the mandrel may be hollow. A hollow mandrel may contain a double-walled metal core, which may contain a heat-retaining material. The elastomeric surface layer is preferably molded from an thermoplastic elastomer composition containing particulate thermochromic material, which preferably comprises reversibly thermochromic dye encapsulated in micro-capsules. The thermochromic dye components are chosen to be non-toxic and environmentally benign. The combination is preferably prepared to have a complete and distinct color change at a curler temperature optimum for curl retention. The colors within the preferred curling temperature range and outside that range are easily distinguished by users, even if they suffer from red/green color blindness. Thermochromic thermoplastic elastomer (TTPE) compositions for the curler mandrel surface layer are disclosed, along with a process for preparing such compositions. Preferred processes for manufacturing the curlers using the TTPE compositions are disclosed.
Abstract:
A hair clip for heating and styling clasped hair, whether damp or dry, into a linear configuration in the scalp area of a user. The clip comprises a pair of biasable jaws including a pair of plates for storing heat and releasing such heat to style clasped hair held between the pair of plates. Supports extend laterally from the hair clip to permit it to freestand and heat and style the hair in a perpendicular fashion to the scalp, giving the remaining hair lift away from the scalp. The hair clips are heated by biasably gripping a heated plate positioned within a base structure of an electric heating unit. The heated hair clips are used in a method of styling dry or damp hair into a linear configuration generally perpendicular to the scalp.
Abstract:
A hair waving appliance includes a head receiving and confining assembly provided with a plurality of independently controllable electric heaters for heating different hairline areas of the head received therein. A plurality of temperature sensing probes, each associated with a respective one of the independently controllable heaters, are connected to a temperature control means for controlling the heating of the respective heaters. Each probe includes a temperature sensitive element enclosed in a spherical shell carried at the end of an elongated spring-biased cord or flexible pipe. The probes extend into the interior of the head receiving and confining assembly and are arranged to adaptably contact the hair on the respective portions of the head. The spherical members have a size at least equal to the size of the curler rods used to curl the hair. The appliance includes means for generating moisture-laden air at room temperature to impart moisture to the hair being treated.
Abstract:
A heating device for heating hair curlers and clips each having a heat storing member. The hair curlers are of the tubular type and the hair clips are of the type having a pair of synthetic resin clipping plates hinged at one end to rockably and resiliently engage each other and with one of the clipping plates being provided on its inner surface with a flat heat-storing member having a higher thermoconductivity than the clipping plates. The heating device comprises an open-top housing containing therein an electric heat generating means including a plate-shaped heating member provided with a plurality of projected pins each adapted to receive a hair curler. A flat plate-shaped member in heat exchange relation with the heat generating means is provided in the housing and adapted to be engaged by a clip. The housing is provided with a camming member for camming the heat-storing plate in the hair clip into thermoconducting contact with the flat plate-shaped member. In an alternative embodiment, each of the projected pins is integrally formed with a flat end portion adapted to be engaged by a hair clip.
