Abstract: An aerosol-generating device is provided, including a heater assembly including at least one heating element; an aerosol-forming substrate proximate to the assembly and including a liquid mixture including nicotine and a first aerosol-former having a boiling temperature higher than nicotine; a power supply to supply power to the assembly to generate an aerosol from the substrate; a mouthpiece to draw aerosol out of the device; and control circuitry to control the supply of power to the assembly, supply a first power to the element or to supply a power sufficient to maintain the element at a first temperature or first temperature range, between user puffs, and supply a second power to the element being higher than the first power or to raise a temperature of the element above the first temperature or the first temperature range, during user puffs, to provide preferential evaporation of nicotine over the first aerosol former.

Abstract: A power supply unit for an aerosol inhaler includes: a power supply configured to supply power to a load that atomizes an aerosol source; a temperature sensor configured to detect a temperature of the power supply; a controller; and a circuit board. The circuit board includes: a first surface; a second surface; a power supply layer in which a power supply path is formed; and a ground layer. The power supply layer and the ground layer are provided between the first surface and the second surface. The temperature sensor is mounted on the second surface, and at least one of the power supply path and the ground path is not formed in a region which overlaps the temperature sensor as viewed from a first direction, the first direction being a direction in which the first surface and the second surface are opposed to each other.

Abstract: There is provided a heat-not-burn device having a thermostatic heater control wherein a puff is determined to have occurred by monitoring when a heater activation period exceeds a threshold. Advantageously, it has been found that determining a puff from monitoring the heater activation period against a threshold is able to detect weaker puffs that a flow sensor may miss. For instance, flow sensors may be capable of detecting puffs with an average flow rate of 55 ml/per second, but fail to detect weaker puffs having an average flow rate which is half or a third of that rate. Whereas it has been found that determining a puff based on the heater activation period can provide a more reliable indication of puff detection, particularly for weak puffs. An accurate and reliable puff detection is advantageous for a number of functions. In particular, an accurate and reliable puff detection allows a puff count to be determined during each smoking session. By way of example, the puff count can be used to identify if the smoking session can be extended based on whether a number of puffs has not been exceeded.

Abstract: A re-fillable liquid tip or pod for a vaping device that includes capacitive sensor plates in the tip liquid reservoir. A liquid re-filling device provides liquid to the vaping device, drawn from a refill bottle; the re-filling device includes a capacitance measuring circuit; a microcontroller uses the data from the capacitance measuring circuit to determine if the level of liquid in the tip liquid reservoir is above or below a threshold level; if below, then a liquid pump in the re-filling device is activated to draw liquid from the refill bottle and pump it through the vaping device and up into the tip liquid reservoir. Pumping ceases once the liquid reaches the threshold level.

Abstract: An aerosol delivery device includes at least one housing, a heating element, a sensor, and a microprocessor coupled to the heating element and the sensor. The at least one housing encloses a reservoir configured to retain an aerosol precursor composition. The sensor is configured to produce measurements of differential pressure between an ambient atmospheric pressure and a pressure caused by airflow through at least a portion of the aerosol delivery device. The sensor is also configured to convert the measurements of differential pressure to corresponding electrical signals. The microprocessor is configured to receive the corresponding electrical signals and operate in an active mode only in an instance in which the differential pressure is at least a threshold differential pressure. The microprocessor in the active mode is configured to control the heating element to activate and vaporize components of the aerosol precursor composition.
