The invention relates to novel herbicidal synergistic active compound combinations comprising, firstly, known substituted aryl ketones and, secondly, one or more known herbicidally active compounds and optionally additionally a compound which improves crop plant compatibility, which combinations can be used with particularly good results for controlling weeds in various crops of useful plants or else for controlling monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weeds in the semi- and nonselective field.

Compounds of the general formula (I) 1 where R1, R2 and R3 are independently hydrogen, cyclohexyl or phenyl, with the proviso that at least one of R1 to R3 is not hydrogen, R4 and R5 are independently methyl or hydrogen, and n is from 21 to 40, which are useful as biodegradable dispersants having good dispersing properties for active pharmaceutical and agrochemical components.

The present invention provides cereal selective herbicidal compositions comprising a herbicidally acceptable carrier and/or surfactant and, as active ingredient, herbicidally effective amount of at least one 6-phenoxypyrid-2-ylcarboxamide of formula I 1 and at least one additional herbicidal compound selected from the group consisting of flufenacet, cinidon-ethyl and carfentrazone-ethyl Also provided is a method for the control of undesirable plants such as Setaria viridis, Alopecurus myosuroides, Poa annua, Stellaria media, Lamium purpureum, Galium aparine, Veronica hede-raefolia, Papaver rhoeas and Matricaria inodora which comprises applying to the plants or their locus a herbicidally effective amount of said compositions. The compositions have been found to possess synergistic properties.
