Abstract: In producing ethanol suitable for alcoholic beverages or fuels, the separation of stillage involves a complicated treatment system necessary to meet stringent air emissions standards and effluent discharge limits. High water content of stillage creates a difficult process mass flow balance configuration resulting in a large power demand and footprint. The present invention simplifies the production and usage of valuable stillage by-products and reduces net energy consumption and emissions to zero with a novel system and method involving a step sequence of: a solid liquid separation; at least one digester arrangement; a closed gas separation system; algae grow nutrient up-take system; a nutrient separation system; an ultra-filtration water system enabling the off-take by-products to be used by the system and an off-take market for the by-products and its purified water. All produced by-products including carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) are used in the system or exported as products.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a pre-stress treatment method for reducing a mortality rate of Haematococcus pluvialis. The method includes the following steps: after the Haematococcus pluvialis is subjected to a logarithmic-growth amplification stage to reach a specific biomass and before the Haematococcus pluvialls enters into an accumulation stage of astaxanthin, performing prestress treatment on the Haematococcus pluvialis, where the prestress treatment indicates adjusting a culture system to include characteristic peaks with wavelength ranges of 430-490 nm and 620-700 nm as spectra parameters. In the present invention, ecological factors in the culture system of the haematococcus pluvialis are adjusted, so that more than 90% of cells therein can detach from flagella in a short time, the walls of the cells are thickened, the cells enter into an ideal immobile cell state in which the astaxanthin can be accumulated, and the mortality rate of the cells is less than 3%, so as to reduce the mortality rate of the cells at an initial stage in which the Haematococcus pluvialis stresses to accumulate the astaxanthin. This reduces the generation of organic matters in an algal liquid, and realizes the purpose of reducing pollution, shortens the accumulation period of the astaxanthin in the Haematococcus pluvialis, and improve the productivity, the quality and yield of the product and the production stability.

Abstract: A method for enhancing photosynthetic productivity in aquatic environments through precision electrochemical nutrient delivery can involve deploying a pair of electrodes within a water-based matrix, where the first electrode functions as an anode and the second as a cathode, forming an electrochemical cell with the water serving as an electrolyte. At least one of these electrodes can be composed of or coated with an inorganic nutrient, facilitating a precise and low-concertation release of nutrients through controlled electrochemical nutrient delivery (CEND). A specified potential difference can be established between the electrodes to control the rate and amount of nutrient delivery. This such a potential difference can facilitate a precise addition of an inorganic nutrients into the water, such as to promote a growth or carbon capture capabilities of photoautotrophic organisms.

Abstract: A photobioreactor system includes a frame, a reflective wall coupled to the frame such that the reflective wall defines and circumferentially surrounds an interior chamber, and multiple light sources coupled to the reflective wall such that the multiple light sources circumferentially surround the interior chamber. The interior chamber is configured to receive a container that holds and supports growth of a desired organism.

Abstract: This disclosure describes the microbial network and community assembly patterns of brown macro algae, e.g., Macrocystis pyrifera gametophyte germplasm, cultures used to cultivate an offshore farm and identify network features associated with increased biomass of mature sporophytes. Several network features, such as clustering coefficient and edge ratios, significantly vary with biomass outcomes; also, gametophytes that become low- or high biomass sporophytes have different hub taxa. This disclosure describes microbial community dynamics in M. pyrifera germplasm cultures and development of early life stage inoculants used on seaweed cultivars to increase biomass yield.

Abstract: A method for providing cold energy to one or more industrial or commercial facilities from a liquid carbon dioxide receiving facility is provided. The method includes the steps of unloading liquid carbon dioxide to the receiving facility, storing liquid carbon dioxide in temporary storage, generating boil-off gas from the temporary storage due to heat ingress, pumping and heating liquid carbon dioxide for external use or permanent geologic storage, and utilizing at least some, and preferably substantially all, of the cold energy from the liquid carbon dioxide for cooling one or more processes in the one or more industrial or commercial facilities.
