    Abstract: A method and apparatus to control pressure in a fluid delivery system utilizes a variable-pressure regulating means and a flow-controlled selecting means to provide a higher pressure when the flow in the system is higher, and to provide a lower pressure when the flow in the system is lower. It exploits an inherent signal that is generated and transmitted by the fluid, and which enables remote control of the pressure. Useful, for example, to provide pressure control for a garden hose fitted with a closeable nozzle, wherein full pressure is provided through the hose when the nozzle is open, lower pressure is maintained when the nozzle is closed, and the operator controls pressure in the hose from the fluid delivery end of the hose, protecting the hose from bulging or splitting, making the hose easier to handle, and conserving water. Other applications include protecting washing machine supply hoses from bursting and flooding; and pressure control of fire sprinkler, compressed gas, and pneumatic control systems.

    Abstract: A tanker vehicle for distributing liquid on a surface includes a chassis that supports a tank for holding the liquid. A fluid pump discharges the liquid from the tank and is driven by a hydraulic motor. A hydraulic system delivers hydraulic fluid to the motor through a supply line and returns the fluid to a tank through a return line. A bypass circuit is disposed between the supply line and the return line, bypassing the motor. The bypass circuit includes a system for providing a combination soft start and soft stop of the hydraulic motor that is configured to enable hydraulic fluid to flow from the supply line through the bypass circuit to the return line at a start of the hydraulic system and to flow from the return line through the bypass circuit to the supply line at a shutdown of the hydraulic system.

    Abstract: A refrigerant flow metering device for use in a refrigeration system which uses a movable piston with a fixed flow passage in series with a variable area flow passage. The variable flow area is defined by the position of the piston relative to the containing housing.     Abstract: A check valve includes an outer valve body and an inner poppet valve moveable relative to the valve body and spring-biased into a closed position. The inner poppet valve has first and second stage openings. The first stage preferably has a single, relatively small through-hole into the chamber of the poppet valve, while the second stage preferably has multiple openings of a larger diameter. The first and second stage openings are spaced axially along the poppet valve, with the first stage opening being located closer to the valve head of the poppet valve than the second stage openings. In the closed position, fluid flow is blocked through both the first and second stage openings. When the cracking force of the valve is exceeded and the valve head moves away from the valve seat, fill flow occurs through the first stage opening and is restricted through the second stage openings. The restricted fluid flow causes the pressure drop across the check valve to be satisfactory at low flow rates to cause the poppet valve to stroke long enough such that particles will pass easily between the valve head and the valve seat. The flow increases through the second stage openings as the poppet valve moves toward its open position. The pressure drop is minimized at high flow rates to maximize the efficiency of the check valve. The check valve also has relatively few parts, and can be easily assembled and installed within the housing of a fuel nozzle.
