Abstract:
A system for pressure molding plastic material includes a source of hot flowable plastic material and a manifold for receiving hot flowable plastic material from the source and for transporting the hot flowable plastic material to a nozzle that is disposed within a nozzle cavity. A heater is provided to heat the nozzle and is positioned outside of, but close to, the nozzle cavity and includes at least one electrical supply wire. A shut-off seal is positioned within the nozzle cavity to seal the nozzle with respect to the wall defining the shut-off cavity. In addition, a secondary seal is most advantageously positioned between the shut-off seal and the heater for ensuring that any hot flowable plastic material that might leak through the shut-off seal does not come into contact with the electrical supply wire. This has been found to increase the reliability and operating life of conventional pressure molding systems.
Abstract:
The air damper includes a piston reciprocating within a cylindrical housing. The piston includes a lip seal which is made of rubber or thermoplastic elastomer impregnated with a minimum of 3% molybdenum/seal part weight, or a minimum of 2% polytetrafluoroethylene or silicone/seal part weight or a minimum of 1% wax/seal part weight. The lip seal is coated with a minimum of 0.5%/seal part weight graphite powder/molybdenum disulfide. The housing is made with a minimum of 2% silicone impregnated thermoplastic or a minimum of 2% moly sulfide impregnated thermoplastic. This provides for increased smoothness of operation of the air damper, particularly at low speeds.
Abstract:
A sealing ring, including a support ring made of an impact-resistant material, and a lip ring made of PTFE, where the lip ring has a holding segment and a sealing segment, and where the holding segment is connected with the support ring by an intermediate layer made of a polymer material. The holding segment and the sealing segment are made of two different PTFE compounds, each adapted to their purpose of use.
Abstract:
The tape is free from any slack and separation even when it is applied and bonded to a metal joint portion while being bent. The tape, made of an unvulcanized material containing an unvulcanized rubber-base material, a vulcanization accelerator, an anti-oxidizing agent, a pigment and a bulk filler, is formed into an elongated shape having an upper and a lower surface and a predetermined thickness measured in a direction perpendicular to the lower surface or flat bottom surface 1. The upper surface forms a circularly-curved surface 2 in cross section. Since the tape is in an unvulcanized state, it is capable of being free bent when applied to the metal joint portion. After application of the tape to the metal joint portion, a paint is applied to the tape, which is followed by a heating process in which the tape is heated, and, therefore vulcanized.
Abstract:
Multi-piece seals of this invention include an annular seal body that is formed from an elastomeric energizing material, and that has a static seal surface along one surface and a contacting surface along another surface. A remaining seal portion in the form of a seal jacket or seal cap is connected to the seal body along the contacting surface to provide a dynamic sealing surface thereto. The seal jacket or cap is formed from a material that is different from the seal body and, more Specifically, from a material that displays improved wear resistance when compared to the seal body. A preferred seal jacket or cap material is a composite construction including a nonelastomeric polymer fabric that is impregnated with an elastomeric material. The seal jacket or cap is configured to connect with the seal body by mechanical attachment means independent of chemical cross-linked bonding. Multi-piece seals of this invention can be formed from two components, e.g., the seal body and the seal jacket or seal cap, or can be formed from three or more components, e.g, the seal body, seal jacket or cap, and one or more stiffening supporting members interposed therebetween.
Abstract:
A seal assembly formed of a T-seal, a pair of back-up rings abutting each side of the T-seal, and a bearing abutting the side of each of the back-up rings. The T-seal is formed of a elastomer material, the back-up ring is formed of a PTFE (polytetraflouroethylene polymer) material, and the bearings are formed of a carbon reinforced PEEK (polyetheretherketone) material.
Abstract:
A pipe joint is formed using a gasket made of coextruded materials of different durometer hardnesses. The gasket includes a relatively soft, thermoplastic elasomeric sealing portion joined to a harder, plastic substrate on one side of the substrate, usually on the outer circumference of the substrate. The substrate may include stiffening regions axially spaced apart from one another and on opposite axial sides of the softer material. The inner circumference of the gasket (if the softer sealing portion is on the outer circumference) may have annular ridges spaced axially from one another to engage shoulders in one of the pipes of the joint to limit axial displacement of the gasket. The gasket, because of its relatively hard substrate, will not collapse into a groove in the pipe defined by the shoulders, thereby reducing the amount of gasket material required by a typical recess joint. The annular ridges may be coextruded of the same material used for the elastomeric sealing portion, allowing both sides of the gasket to form a seal, thus also permitting the gasket to be useful in single offset joints.
Abstract:
A combination disc and sealing ring for a filter assembly is provided. The disc is an annular thermoplastic disc having a central aperture. The disc includes an upper side and a lower side and the upper side of the disc includes an annular thickened area that extends upward from the upper side of the disc and that is spaced radially outward from the aperture of the disc. The annular thickened area is thermally welded to a sealing ring. The height of the annular thickened area is at least one-third the height of the sealing ring. The sealing ring further includes a central aperture that has a common axis with the central aperture of the disc. The sealing ring also includes a compressible area radially disposed between the aperture of the sealing ring and the annular thickened area of the disc.
