Abstract: A container for sorting and storing items to be laundered is described. The container comprises two lower compartments for storing bulkier items and two inner compartments arranged to pivot within the container from a position wherein the inner compartment(s) are within the container to an outward position wherein the inner compartment(s) are outward of the container. Furthermore, the inner compartments are arranged to accept one or more rigid inserts therein. In operation, items to be laundered together are deposited into the desired rigid insert(s). When laundry day arrives, the rigid insert(s) are removed from the inner compartment(s) of the container and emptied directly into the washing machine. As the items to be laundered have already been sorted, the time and effort required to do the laundry is significantly decreased. Finally, the container, the inner compartments and the rigid inserts all include air holes for improving air circulation throughout the container so that odors and smells do not accumulate.

Abstract: A pair of elongate, segmented gripping members are carried by the lifting member of a refuse collection vehicle. Each of the gripping members includes an inner arm movably carried by the lifting member and an outer arm movably extending from the inner arm. The gripping members are movable between a retracted position in which the inner arms extend in generally opposite directions, fore and aft along the side of the vehicle, and an extended position in which the inner arms extend in generally the same direction laterally outward from the vehicle. Each outer arm is inwardly movable relative the respective inner arm to draw a container into the embrace of the gripping members. Abstract: The present invention is a cabinet having multiple compartments for storing and sorting articles, such as recyclables, laundry, toys, trash, etc. Vertical slots are provided in the front and rear walls of the cabinet for the insertion of dividing panels to thereby adjust the number and size of compartments. Cleats are provided on the interior of the cabinet, and on the panels for holding the handles or drawstrings of plastic or cloth bags. A bottom drawer is located on the front of the cabinet. The drawer can store extra bags for future use, and is also large enough to store any unused panels. The top of the cabinet includes three covers for access to the compartments. The drawer and covers are provided with knobs to aid in opening the drawer and covers. Two of the vertical slots are located between the covers. This configuration allows access to one of the compartments at a time when the panels are placed in these two slots. When additional panels are used each cover can provide access to more than one compartment depending on the placement of the panels. Optionally, four castors can be provided on the bottom of the cabinet to allow easy movement from one location to the next. With the exception of hardware, hinges and the castors, the entire cabinet can be made of wood for aesthetic purposes. Other materials such as plastic, metal, press-board, laminates, etc., can be used depending on the preferred cost or appearance.

Abstract: The invention provides a new method of recycling recyclable waste products suited for household use wherein the container is a plastic injection-molded container having a monolithic body formed from plastic resin and includes a pair of integral compartments. Fibrous waste is placed in one compartment and nonfibrous waste comprising rigid and semirigid container, e.g., glass jars, metal beverage and food cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles are placed in the other compartment so as to presort the recyclable articles. The container is then taken to a collection point where the presorted products can be picked up by a recycling collection contractor and maintained separate from one another during transport to a recycling center.

Abstract: A refuse collection and recycling apparatus for primary household use for the purpose of collecting, separating and recycling refuse such as paper, plastics, cans, bottles and food, generated in the home, stores, and offices by means of a sample operation using a device of simple construction. The refuse collection and recycling apparatus will generally comprise a chute for discarding refuse. The front end and bottom end of the chute has an opening and inner and outer surfaces. The hollow housing is attached to the bottom end of the chute in such a way that the openings in the bottom end of the chute and top end of the hollow housing are aligned directly over one another. The apparatus further contains a removable hollow caddy which is positioned inside the hollow area of the housing when the back door is open. The apparatus still further contains one or more refuse containers positioned inside the hollow area of the caddy for collecting and recycling garbage.
