Abstract:
The present invention provides an easy settable stretch fabric comprising three types of yarns: a rigid fiber, an elastic fiber, and a low-melt fiber, wherein the low-melt fiber comprises low-melt polymer which can be fused in the temperature between 60° C. to 200° C., being higher than the temperature used for normal textile process and household laundry, but lower than the temperature used for heat setting elastic fiber. The low-melt fiber can be selected from a group of fibers made from modified polyester, nylon, and polypropylene and the copolymer from them in the form of staple or filament.

Articles of knit fabric having a surface side and a base side, and including a set of ground yarns and a layer of effect yarns, wherein the ground yarns and effect yarns are knit through intermesh points in a predetermined arrangement, wherein the effect yarns are alternately arranged with the ground yarns, and wherein the ground yarns contain at least one elastic fiber and optionally at least one hard fiber, and the effect yarns contain at least one hard fiber or at least one elastic fiber are provided.
Abstract:
A stitched yarn surface structure includes a backing having decorative upper surface and a thickness dimension T of at least two (2) millimeters. The backing exhibits a predetermined compressive resistance Rb. Plural rows of face yarn segments cover at least a portion of the decorative upper surface of the backing, with adjacent face yarn segments being spaced apart by a predetermined minimum spacing dimension S. The yarns forming the face yarn segments have a predetermined compressive resistance Ry. The compressive resistance Rb, the compressive resistance Ry, and the spacing S are selected such that a load of up to one hundred (100) pounds per square inch (psi) imposed on the stitched yarn surface structure by a loading member is able to be borne by the stitched yarn surface structure without allowing contact between the member and the decorative upper surface of the backing.

Abstract:
Undergarments that protect from the detrimental interaction of electrostatic fields with human tissue. Filaments woven or knitted into patterns or into an insert attached to the undergarments may comprise electrically nonconductive strands and electrically conductive strands. Electrostatic field-concentrators provided upon particular strands create ions from adjacent air molecules and cancel electrostatic charges in their vicinity. The geometry of the preferred filaments is such that the field-concentrators are salient from the central bulk of the filament by a distance at least as great as the axial radius of the field-concentrator terminal surface. As a result, potentially detrimental electrostatic fields are reduced, and concomitant health benefits to the wearer are realized.
Abstract:
A fabric, in the form of a woven or knitted fabric or garment, including a flexible information infrastructure integrated within the fabric for collecting, processing, transmitting and receiving information concerning—but not limited to—a wearer of the fabric. The fabric allows a new way to customize information processing devices to “fit” the wearer by selecting and plugging in (or removing) chips/sensors from the fabric thus creating a wearable, mobile information infrastructure that can operate in a stand-alone or networked mode. The fabric can be provided with sensors for monitoring physical aspects of the wearer, for example body vital signs, such as heart rate, EKG, pulse, respiration rate, temperature, voice, and allergic reaction, as well as penetration of the fabric. The fabric consists of a base fabric (“comfort component”), and an information infrastructure component which can consist of a penetration detection component, or an electrical conductive component, or both. The preferred penetration detection component is a sheathed optical fiber. The information infrastructure component can include, in addition to an electrically conductive textile yarn, a sensor or a connector for a sensor. A process is provided for making an electrical interconnection between intersecting electrically conductive yarns. Furthermore, a process is established for sheathing the plastic optical fiber and protecting it.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to improved pile fabrics containing courses in which at least two pile forming yarns are meshed across a complete course together cooperatively in various fabric constructions, and respectively into a ground fabric, and forming pile loops one another alternatively in succeeding wales or areas. The fabric is manufactured according to a process in which needles are moved into a feeding position in which they remain, meanwhile in at least two succeeding sections, alternatively, pile elements are selected and raised and after the feeding of a pile yarn are retracted to an intermediate position. The pile yarns are controlled separately from one another and are unaffected in their movement to the loop-forming and meshing action. The manufacturing is realized on circular knitting machinery having a plurality of knitting sections of a type having at least two cooperative beds adapted for movable disposition therein of respective circles of knitting needles and arranged for respective movement of knitting needles transversely of and between a circle of pile elements arranged in the other bed for respective movement of the pile elements each having a pile yarn engaging hook. The pile loops can be severed according to an arrangement provided for in the knitting machine.
Abstract:
A tubular blank for making briefs or panties in which a body section is formed with a circular knitting machine so as to have a first section knit with a stitch to be used in the garment and second sections on either side that are to be cut out to form leg openings or the like, the second sections being knit with yarn from spaced courses of the first section.
