摘要: The present invention provides an accelerating structure capable of increasing a degree of vacuum at a middle part inside the accelerating structure while confining an alternating electric field to the inside. An accelerating structure 1 is formed of a plurality of annular discs 2 and 3 serially connected into a cylindrical shape. At least one of the discs 3 disposed at a middle part of the accelerating structure 1 includes: a choke structure formed by a choke filter 7; and a vacuum port 8 opened in an outer circumferential surface of the disc on an outer circumferential side radially outward from the choke structure, and the vacuum port 8 is connected to an external exhaust device.

摘要: Some embodiments include operation of an accelerator waveguide to accelerate particles to a first energy within the waveguide, wherein a prebuncher coupled to the waveguide outputs particle bunches having a first phase, change of a phase at which particle bunches will be output from the prebuncher from the first phase to a second phase, and operation of the accelerator waveguide to accelerate particles to a second energy within the waveguide, wherein the prebuncher outputs particle bunches having the second phase. Further aspects provide change of a resonant frequency of the prebuncher from a first frequency to a second frequency. According to still further aspects, the prebuncher includes a prebuncher cavity and change of the resonant frequency comprises change of a shape of the prebuncher cavity.

摘要: Apparatuses and methods for accelerating electrons include a radio-frequency (RF) waveguide configured to couple an RF source to an accelerator that utilizes electron cyclotron resonance acceleration (eCRA). The RF waveguide includes a pair of parallel rectangular waveguides including a first waveguide and a second waveguide and a mode converter coupled to respective ends of the pair of parallel rectangular waveguides. The mode converter includes and outer body and two coaxial cylinders. An electron source is configured to provide a beam of electrons through an inner cylinder. An accelerator includes a RF cavity having a longitudinal axis, a cylindrical outer wall, an inlet, and an outlet and an electro-magnet surrounding the RF cavity and configured to produce an axial magnetic field. The mode converter is configured to excite a rotating TE-111 mode in the RF cavity.
