Abstract: An apparatus for downmixing three or more audio input channels to obtain two or more audio output channels is provided. The apparatus includes a receiving interface for receiving the three or more audio input channels and for receiving side information. Moreover, the apparatus includes a downmixer for downmixing the three or more audio input channels depending on the side information to obtain the two or more audio output channels. The number of the audio output channels is smaller than the number of the audio input channels. The side information indicates a characteristic of at least one of the three or more audio input channels, or a characteristic of one or more sound waves recorded within the one or more audio input channels, or a characteristic of one or more sound sources which emitted one or more sound waves recorded within the one or more audio input channels.

At least one user control element may be configured to enable a user input that includes a selection for the one or more audio settings, with the configuring including adjusting operation of the at least one user control element, and the adjusting including enabling for selection or setting, via the at least one user control element, values for the user input that match or correspond to only the valid values for the at least one audio setting.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for decompressing a Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA) signal representation is disclosed. The apparatus includes an input interface that receives an encoded directional signal and an encoded ambient signal and an audio decoder that perceptually decodes the encoded directional signal and encoded ambient signal to produce a decoded directional signal and a decoded ambient signal, respectively. The apparatus further includes an extractor for obtaining side information related to the directional signal and an inverse transformer for converting the decoded ambient signal from a spatial domain to an HOA domain representation of the ambient signal. The apparatus also includes a synthesizer for recomposing a Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA) signal from the HOA domain representation of the ambient signal and the decoded directional signal. The side information includes a direction of the directional signal selected from a set of uniformly spaced directions.

Abstract: A parametric stereo upmix method for generating a left signal and a right signal from a mono downmix signal based on spatial parameters includes predicting a difference signal comprising a difference between the left signal and the right signal based on the mono downmix signal scaled with a prediction coefficient. The prediction coefficient is derived from the spatial parameters. The method further includes deriving the left signal and the right signal based on a sum and a difference of the mono downmix signal and said difference signal.

Abstract: There is provided encoding and decoding methods for representing spatial audio that is a combination of directional sound and diffuse sound. An exemplary encoding method includes inter alia creating a single- or multi-channel downmix audio signal by downmixing input audio signals from a plurality of microphones in an audio capture unit capturing the spatial audio; determining first metadata parameters associated with the downmix audio signal, wherein the first metadata parameters are indicative of one or more of: a relative time delay value, a gain value, and a phase value associated with each input audio signal; and combining the created downmix audio signal and the first metadata parameters into a representation of the spatial audio.

Abstract: An multi-input, multi-output audio process is implemented as a linear system for use in an audio filterbank to convert a set of frequency-domain input audio signals into a set of frequency-domain output audio signals. A transfer function from one input to one output is defined as a frequency dependent gain function. In some implementations, the transfer function includes a direct component that is substantially defined as a frequency dependent gain, and one or more decorrelated components that have frequency-varying group phase response. The transfer function is formed from a set of sub-band functions, with each sub-band function being formed from a set of corresponding component transfer functions including direct component and one or more decorrelated components.

Abstract: Audio objects are associated with positional metadata. A received downmix signal comprises downmix channels that are linear combinations of one or more audio objects and are associated with respective positional locators. In a first aspect, the downmix signal, the positional metadata and frequency-dependent object gains are received. An audio object is reconstructed by applying the object gain to an upmix of the downmix signal in accordance with coefficients based on the positional metadata and the positional locators. In a second aspect, audio objects have been encoded together with at least one bed channel positioned at a positional locator of a corresponding downmix channel. The decoding system receives the downmix signal and the positional metadata of the audio objects. A bed channel is reconstructed by suppressing the content representing audio objects from the corresponding downmix channel on the basis of the positional locator of the corresponding downmix channel.
