A method of controlling the speed of an electric motor, said method being a digital method designed to control the speed of an induction motor that is powered by a triac device to a preset speed, in which the speed of the motor is measured and a digital numerical value representative of the mathematical first derivative of motor speed is calculated. A determination is made of the digital numerical value of the motor speed first derivative relative to a range, or band, of values. An error signal also is computed that is proportional to the error between the measured current motor speed and the preset speed and a determination is made of the digital numerical value of this error signal relative to a range, or band, of values that includes a value corresponding to that of the motor operating at the preset speed. If the value of each of the two signals is within its respective band, then the two numerical values are added to produce a total error signal whose value is then converted to a signal to a signal to correct the triac triggering angle to that needed to obtain the preset motor speed.

A blower motor control for an air conditioner is carried out so that when a detected actual rotation speed has come into an allowable deviation range to a target rotation speed at the time of controlling the motor so as to approach its rotation speed to the target rotation speed, the output for adjusting the rotation speed is not changed. As a result, a stable rotation speed can be obtained as long as the load on the motor does not fluctuate. Furthermore, after the output has been fixed, the allowable deviation range is expanded to prevent the output from changing even if slight load fluctuation is caused. This allows stable controls.

The data input/output device of an elevator drive regulation receives actual values of the speed and of the displacement of an elevator cabin at related counters which are connected to related digital tachometers. The data are evaluated and transmitted via an interface to a digital computer of the drive regulation. The digital computer compares the data with stored reference values and computes input values for related adjusting members of the drive regulation. The computed input values are transmitted via the interface to and stored in a programmable multiple counter of the data input/output device. The programmable multiple counter contains three counters each of which is connected through a driver stage with a thyristor associated with one phase of a three-phase a.c.-elevator drive. A synchronizing device ensures that all thyristors are always ignited at any one time at the same phase angle which corresponds to the adjusting magnitude. A further counter of the programmable multiple counter is connected to a driver stage which acts upon the control of an eddy-current brake in the drive regulation.

An induction motor drive apparatus brings the actual speed of an induction motor into coincidence with a command speed by varying the frequency and effective value of a three-phase AC voltage applied to the induction motor and limits the torque of the induction motor in the low speed region by controlling an amplitude of a speed deviation signal below a prescribed value. The apparatus includes an inverter for generating three-phase AC voltage, a speed deviation signal generator, a torque limit signal generator, an amplitude controller for controlling the amplitude of the speed deviation signal based on the presence of the torque limit signal, a slip signal generator which generates a slip signal having a positive or negative constant voltage conforming to the rotational direction of the induction motor, an adder for adding together a voltage signal which conforms to the actual speed and the slip signal, a rectangular waveform signal generator, a multiplier for multiplying an output of the amplitude controller by an output of the adder and a pulse width modulator. The rectangular waveform signal generator is adapted to produce a three-phase rectangular signal whose frequency is proportional to the output voltage value of the adder. The rectangular signal of each phase is modulated in pulse width on the basis of the speed deviation, the inverter being controlled by each resulting pulse-width modulated rectangular signal to thereby vary the effective value of the three-phase AC voltage and to make the speed of the induction motor constant.

A speed control system for alternating current induction motors wherein a reference potential, which is a rectified phase of the alternating current supply potential, is connected across the series combination of a charge circuit resistor and the timing capacitor of a unijunction transistor type relaxation oscillator circuit and a direct current control potential, which is a function of motor speed, is connected across the charge circuit resistor through a speed control resistor in series. The unijunction transistor type relaxation oscillator circuit and associated circuitry produces a trigger signal at the electrical angle of each potential cycle of each phase of the alternating current supply potential as determined by the difference of magnitude between the reference potential and the control potential impressed across the charge circuit resistor which trigger respective silicon controlled rectifiers conductive to complete an energizing circuit for the corresponding phase winding of the motor. An external source of electrical signals which vary in magnitude in response to changes of conditions which require a change of motor speed is connected across the speed control resistor for varying the speed of the controlled motor.
