    摘要: The invention provides a cylindrical permanent magnet unit suitable for application to gyrotrons. Essentially the magnet unit consists of two cylindrical permanent magnets which are coaxially aligned, and there is a space between the two cylindrical magnets. Each of the two cylindrical magnet is a coaxially juxtaposed assembly of a plurality of ring-like permanent magnets, and each ring-like magnet is constructed of a plurality of permanent magnet segments. In one of the two cylindrical magnets every ring-like permanent magnet is magnetized in radial directions from the inside toward the outside, and in the other every ring-like permanent magnet is magnetized in radial directions from the outside toward the inside. In the bore of the cylindrical magnet unit the magnetic field is in the direction of the longitudinal center axis of the bore. By virtue of the space between the two cylindrical magnets, the distribution of flux density in the direction of the center axis becomes flat in a middle section of the bore. A ring-like member of a nonmagnetic material may be inserted in the aforementioned space.

    摘要: A gyrotron gun that generates gyrating electron beams in a controllable manner suitable for use in a wide range of gyro-amplifiers and gyro-oscillators is disclosed. The gyrotron comprises first and second means for abruptly changing a magnetic field and which means are positioned between first, second and third field coils. The field coils are operated so as to provide for a desired magnetic field profile that allows for the control of the parameters desired to provide for small-orbit, large-orbit, and linear modes of operation of the gyrotron gun. The gyrotron gun further comprises of a pair of bucking coils arranging near the cathode to independently control the axial velocity spread of the gyrating electron beam.

    摘要: A microwave coupler with improved efficiency receives microwave energy in a principal mode TEm,n (m and n being whole numbers and n being not zero) and gives a quasi-optical energy beam. It comprises a mode converter that receives energy in the principal mode and converts a part of it into an auxiliary mode TEp,q (with p and q being whole numbers, q close to one and not zero, p greater than q). The energy in the principal mode and in the auxiliary mode get propagated in a radiator and emerge in the form of the quasi-optical beam by an aperture that coincides with a minimum electrical field resulting from the electrical field of the principal mode and the electrical field of the auxiliary mode. The disclosure has applications notably to the field of gyrotubes.

    摘要: A high-power oscillator which uses a quasi-optical ring resonator to prov the feedback required for oscillation allows energy to travel in one direction only within the resonator and suffers little loss of energy during operation. The oscillator is built by inserting an array of amplifiers, tuned to a desired frequency, into the quasi-optical ring resonator formed by three reflective mirrors. The mirrors are spaced such that the total loop phase shift is equal to an integer multiple of 360 degrees at the desired frequency and, by proper selection of the amplifiers, the loop gain is set to be greater than or equal to one.

    摘要: A depressed collector is provided which is capable of recovering energy from a large orbit gyrating electron beam received from a microwave device, such as a gyrotron. The depressed collector sorts and collects the electrons of the spent electron beam on the basis of their radial energy levels. The depressed collector comprises a plurality of stages of electrodes. Each of the electrode stages have a negative potential applied thereto, with the first of the electrode stages having the greatest negative potential with respect to the microwave device, and the subsequent stages having decreasing relative potential. The depressed collector will sort the electrons from the gyrating electron beam in accordance with their radial energy, with electrons having the highest radial energy being collected on the first electrode, and electrons having lesser amounts of radial energy being collected on the subsequent electrodes.
