Abstract: The head-mounted display device includes an IPD adjustment mechanism and two optical display modules, and the IPD adjustment mechanism is configured to drive the two optical display modules to move. The inter pupillary distance adjustment method includes: after a user wears the head-mounted display device, controlling the IPD adjustment mechanism to move by a first distance in a first direction, where the first distance is used to eliminate a backlash error of the IPD adjustment mechanism; and controlling the IPD adjustment mechanism to operate and move by a second distance in a second direction, where the IPD adjustment mechanism drives the two optical display modules to move, and a distance between the two optical display modules after the movement matches an inter pupillary distance of the user.

Abstract: A wearable ophthalmic device is disclosed. The device may include a head-mounted light field display configured to generate a physical light field comprising a beam of light. The head-mounted light field display may direct the beam of light into a user's eye, thereby producing a retinal reflex. The device may also include a head-mounted photodetector array configured to receive the retinal reflex and to generate numerical image data. The device may also include a light field processor configured to control the light field display, to analyze the retinal reflex using the numerical image data, and to determine an optical prescription for the user's eye based on the analysis of the retinal reflex.

Abstract: A head-mounted augmented reality device (10) includes a pair of optical modules (12) for the right and left eyes of the user, each having a collimating display source (14) optically coupled to a light guide (16) for directing image illumination towards an eye of the user. A support structure (20) is supported by the head of the user. An optical bench (22) provides a first set of alignment features (26, 28, 32, 74) for aligning and affixing the right optical module and a second set of alignment features (26, 28, 32, 74) for aligning and affixing the left optical module. A suspension arrangement suspends the optical bench relative to the support structure. The optical bench (22) provides the sole mechanical connection between the pair of optical modules (12) and the support structure (20).

Abstract: An eyepiece suitable for a night vision device, having an optical combiner for injecting a synthetic image onto the scene and having a single optical correction mechanism is provided herein. The eyepiece may include an observer-side lens; an objective-side lens; a diopter adjustment knob configured to set a distance between the observer-side lens and the objective-side lens; and an optical combiner located between the objective-side lens and the objective-side lens, wherein the optical combiner reflects towards the observer-side lens, the synthetic image transmitted from outside the eyepiece and transfers towards the observer-side lens, a scene image coming from an objecting lens of the night vision device and passing through the objective side lens, and wherein the diopter adjustment knob serves as a single setting mechanism which simultaneously sets a diopter of the observer and a focal depth of the display source image.

Abstract: In a display system configured to display images at multiple depth planes, images perceived to be substantially full color or multi-colored may be formed using component color images that are distributed in unequal numbers across a plurality of depth planes. The distribution of component color images across the depth planes may vary based on color. In some embodiments, a display system includes a stack of waveguides that each output light of a particular color, with some colors having fewer numbers of associated waveguides than other colors. The stack of waveguides may include multiple pluralities of different numbers of waveguides, each plurality configured to produce an image by outputting light corresponding to a particular color. A display controller can introduce blur and/or change pixel size for images to be presented for at least one depth plane, based on the contents of images.

Abstract: A system such as a head-mounted device may have left and right displays for displaying images. The images may be presented to left and right eye boxes through left and right fixed (non-removable) lenses and corresponding left and right removable vision correction lenses. The left and right fixed lenses may be supported by left and right fixed lens supports to which the left and right displays are mounted, respectively. To removably attach the vision correction lenses to the fixed lenses, the fixed lens supports and vision correction lenses may be provided with bayonet mounts. The bayonet mounts may have push-and-turn structures such as pins that mate with corresponding slots.

Abstract: Increasing transparency of one or more micro-displays. A method includes attaching a transparent cover to at least a portion of a semiconductor wafer. The at least a portion of the semiconductor wafer includes the one or more micro-displays. The one or more micro-displays include one or more active silicon areas. The method further includes, after the transparent cover has been attached to the at least a portion of the semiconductor wafer, removing silicon between one or more of the active silicon areas, causing the one or more micro-displays to have a transparency of at least 50%.
