The extending support frame is provided with a burner opening at one end. The carbon-deposition-preventing gas burner has a main-flame burner box provided on the inner side of the burner opening, an incoming-gas guide tube in communication with the main-flame burner box, and a main-flame gas nozzle provided at the gas inlet of the incoming-gas guide tube. The gas stove structure can effectively prevent carbon deposition attributable to long-term or intensive use of the gas stove.

A gas range includes a burner, a burner control unit, a piezoelectric igniter and a safety valve. The safety valve is situated between a gas supply and the burner. A thermocouple is situated near the burner. The piezoelectric igniter is used to ignite gas which vents out of the burner. As a flame occurs at the burner, a temperature at the burner will ascend. The thermocouple detects the increased temperature and generates a current to open the safety valve. If the flame goes out, the temperature will descend to the predetermined value. The thermocouple detects the decreased temperature and stops generating any current to actuate the safety valve. Thus, the safety valve is closed so as to keep any gas from venting out of the burner.

The transformer has a primary winding and a secondary winding. The spark gap is connected across the secondary winding of the transformer. A switch is in electrical communication with the primary winding such that when the switch is in a first state, electrical current may flow through the primary winding and when the switch is in a second state, electrical current may not flow through the primary winding. The system comprises at least one flame detector having an output indicating the presence of a flame. A programmable circuit having an input for receiving the output of the flame detector and an output for triggering the spark generator is provided. A method of ignition is also provided.

The device includes a plurality of switches each associated with a gas-tap and actuatable by the operation of the gas-tap, a plurality of heat responsive sensors each having a switching circuit operationally connected in circuit with a secondary control circuit and a timer, and a central control unit connected in circuit for receiving control signals from the output of each of the secondary control circuits, thereby controlling the state of the main gas supply valve. Upon the detection by a heat responsive sensor of the extinction of a fire from a burner when a gas-tap associated therewith is open, after a predetermined time period, the secondary control circuit connected to the sensor emits a signal to the central control unit for effecting the closing of the main gas supply valve.

A fail safe gas shut off system is provided for a gas appliance. Two normally closed valve stages are provided in series, with each stage operated by a bidirectional solenoid armature. When the armature moves in one direction, the first stage of the valve is opened to supply gas to a pilot burner and to the second stage of the valve. When the pilot flame heats an emissive element to produce sufficient radiation, a photovoltaic device illuminated by the emissive element produces current for an electromagnet which latches the first stage of the valve in its open position. The armature can then move in the opposite direction and open the second stage of the valve to supply gas to the main burner. In the event of pilot flame failure, the emissive element darkens, and current from the photovoltaic device ends. The electromagnet releases the first stage of the valve which is biased closed and cuts off gas flow to both the pilot and main burners.
