The steam converter utilizes the condensation heat of the contaminated steam to generate pure steam from water supplied to the converter. The electric boiler is connected in parallel to the steam converter and includes electrodes adapted to generate steam when moistened by water supplied to the boiler from a separate water container in the housing. Selective control of the supply of water to the electric boiler and the extent to which the electrodes are moistened regulates the amount of pure steam generated by the electric boiler. The pure steam generated by the steam converter and electric boiler is discharged from the common housing through a steam outlet.

A water distribution means is spaced above each electrode and provides a plurality of water jets which impinge on the electrode. Since the plurality of pairs of electrodes are arranged in the heating tank at uniform intervals, the heating operation can be always performed in a state where the electrolyte solution of no less than the minimum water level is stored regardless of the direction of the heating tank so that it is possible to heat water or to generate steam. Therefore, the water heating apparatus can be easily applied to a product that is inclined or upset and that is not in a specific direction.

An electrode boiler of the type in which each electrode is located in a steam generating compartment surrounded by a control compartment and the boiler load is regulated by transfer of water between these compartments. A manifold is mounted at the top of each steam generating compartment and is connected to a source of electrical energy. Water received by the manifold is formed into multi-jets that are directed downwardly in the steam generating compartment. The rate of steam generation is controlled, in part, by the height of water in the steam generating compartment. In one embodiment, the jets are directed inwardly to converge adjacent the center bottom of the chamber. In another embodiment, the jets are directed vertically downward and may be reformed at an intermediate point of their travel. Water is removed from the boiler and pumped to the manifolds. Normally this water is mixed with other water. The other water may be water which has been removed from the boiler and used for some purpose, such as space heating for instance. In one embodiment the piping between the control compartment and the manifold is discontinuous to provide a gap bridged only by the water.
