摘要: A wave operated assembly (20) configured to be submerged in a body of water (12), the wave operated assembly (20) comprising a wave actuated member (24), a second portion and a piston assembly, pressure chamber (22) or spring coupled between the wave actuated member (24) and the second portion. The wave actuated member (24) and the fixed portion each define part of a first chamber (22) or volume comprising or configured to receive a fluid. A lower portion of the wave actuated member (24) at least partly defines a free surface (35) between the fluid within the first chamber (22) or volume and the body of water (12). The wave actuated member (24) is movable relative to the second portion. The piston assembly, pressure chamber (22) or spring is configured to apply a force on the wave actuated member (24) that works in opposition to a force on the wave actuated member (24) due to the fluid in the first chamber (22) or volume.

摘要: An apparatus comprises an asymmetric heaving floating body that resists influence from viscosity effects. The asymmetric heaving floating body is coupled to a Permanent Magnet Linear Generator (“PMLG”) that serves as a power take off (“PTO”) system. A support structure for the apparatus is designed so as to restrain lateral force and pitching moment. Similarly, the asymmetric floating body is designed to minimize viscosity effects when in motion to transfer incident wave energy to the PTO.

摘要: Disclosed is a single degree of freedom (DOF) apparatus of extremely high efficiency, which also serves as an effective floating breakwater. The apparatus comprises a unique asymmetric heaving floating body that exhibits minimal influence from viscosity effects. The asymmetric heaving floating body is coupled to a Permanent Magnet Linear Generator (“PMLG”) that serves as a power take off (“PTO”) system. A support structure used to install the apparatus in a desired location is also disclosed. The support structure is designed so as to restrain lateral force and pitching moment. Similarly, the asymmetric floating body is designed to minimize viscosity effects when in motion and for effectively transferring incident wave energy to the PTO. At least one preferred embodiment of the present invention may be referred to by the name “Berkeley Wedge.”

摘要: A wave responsive electrical generator device having a buoyant member connected to an anchor by a tether line member, the line member passing through a sheave mounted within the buoyant member and descending to a counterweight, whereby vertical motion of the buoyant member results in rotation of the sheave, which in turn operates hydraulic cylinders to deliver hydraulic fluid under pressure to an hydraulic motor, which drives an electrical generator, wherein the line member is a plurality of belts mechanically interlocking with the sheave.

摘要: The invention is a wave energy device which optimizes energy conversion from waves with a stable submerged platform coupled to compliant chain of floats (“pods”) which are connected to the platform by piston pumps. Wave action drives pumps to deliver pressurized water to a hydro turbine coupled to an electric generator for delivery of electric power to shore via a submarine cable. Alternatively, the pressurized water may be delivered to shore through pipes on the ocean floor, to generate electric power, also as input flow for reverse osmosis potable water production and for cooling applications.

摘要: A wave energy converter is described that can change shape to mechanically tune itself to change the amount of water that the converter pushes up and down. In effect, the wave energy converter employs variable virtual added mass to tune the wave energy converter to the waves, thereby increasing the energy extraction from the waves. The shape change or variable virtual added mass type system can be employed on any type of wave energy converter including, but not limited to, point absorber wave energy converters.

摘要: A float structure for a WEC is designed to have a tapered underside to reduce the impact due to wave slam and bending moments while providing little reduction in the surface area responding to the wave surface in order to maintain the beneficial power generating capability of a “flat” float. The underside of the float presents an inverted wedge section to decrease loads associated with wave slamming. The float may have a generally toroidal or elliptical configuration at and about the “still” water line with the generally submerged underside of the float having a cross section shaped to have one or more inverted triangular sections extending between the outer perimeter of the float and its center to reduce impact loading due to wave slamming while maintaining power producing capability.
