    摘要: An optical heat exchanger and an associated system and method are provided to allow a vehicle, such as an unmanned air vehicle, a rocket or the like, to deliver more payload at a lower cost. The optical heat exchanger includes a support surface defining a plurality of tapered openings. Each tapered opening tapers from the first size proximate an outwardly facing end of the opening to a second smaller size proximate an inwardly facing end of the opening. The inwardly facing end of each tapered opening is in communication with the propellant. The optical heat exchanger also includes a plurality of lenses with each lens positioned proximate the outwardly facing end of a respective opening. Each lens is configured to receive an electromagnetic energy beam and concentrate the majority of the electromagnetic energy beam through the inwardly facing end of the respective tapered opening, thereby heating the propellant.

    摘要: A propulsion motor using a fine particulate material, having a heat content, the material being fed to a convergent portion upstream of and adjacent to the throat of a propulsion nozzle. A fluid under pressure is also fed to the convergent portion, to mix with the particulate material. The fluid is heated by the particulate material, increasing volume and speed, the particulate material and the fluid ejecting from the nozzle. A particular use of such a motor would be on the moon, or some other body, where a fine particulate material can be made available locally.

    摘要: A vapor jet system to continuously jet vapors while suppressing cavitation. One vapor jet system includes a liquid storage part for separately storing two or more kinds of mutually insoluble liquids; a jet orifice; and a jet control part. Jetting the vapors is from a state where pressure in the space storing the vapors in the liquid storage part is higher than the saturated vapor pressure in any of the two or more kinds of liquids. Alternatively, a vapor jet system can include a fluid storage part storing one kind of liquid and at least one kind of inactive gas having a composition different from the liquid; a similar jet orifice; and a similar jet control part. Jetting the vapors and inactive gas(es) is (are) from a state where pressure in a vapor storing space in the fluid storage part is higher than the saturated vapor pressure in the liquid.

    摘要: A chemical-electromagnetic hybrid propeller with variable specific impulse. Fuel gas ejected out from a spraying tube of the chemical propeller through chemical propulsion enters an ionization chamber through a first magnetic mirror tube for ionization. The fuel gas after ionization is heated up by radio-frequency ion cyclotron waves in an ion cyclotron wave heating chamber so as to improve the kinetic energy. Then a second magnetic mirror tube is used, so that ions in the fuel gas after the ionization are heated up many times in a reciprocating manner between the magnetic mirror tubes, and ejected to generate forward propulsion force. By means of the propeller, the propulsion force and the specific impulse are greatly increased.

    摘要: A propulsion device contains a working mass within an enclosed plenum, where the working mass is recirculated through the plenum to produce a net force vector. The working mass is accelerated around a first bend or change in direction within the plenum by a working mass driver. The temperature of the working mass is then reduced and the working mass is slowed. The working mass is then accelerated around a second bend or change in direction within the plenum resulting in two opposing force vectors. When combined, the two opposing force vectors produce a net force, and thus, acceleration of the propulsion device. The propulsion device may be used in connection with a space vehicle or satellite.
