A method for anchoring a device in multilayer soil includes analyzing the soil to determine the depth, hardness and density of at least two layers of soils. The anchoring device is prepared for positioning by attaching a self-drilling bit to a bottom end of a hollow rod, attaching a drilling disc to the rod at a position above the self-drilling bit, attaching at least one helical disc to the rod above the drilling disc, and attaching a positioning plate to the rod at a distance from the drilling disc such that the distance from the bottom of the drilling disc to the bottom of the positioning plate is approximately equal to the depth of a first layer of soil. The anchoring device is drilled into the soil until the drilling disc rests on top of the second layer and the positioning plate rests on top of the first layer.

The invention provides an injection, sealing, valving and passageway system for use with hollow rock bolts and hollow injection bars used in mining, civil engineering, tunneling and construction including use with hollow self drilling rock bolts. The invention comprises a plurality of passageways with one or more one way flow valves along the passageways. The invention enables one or more fluids to be pumped into a hollow rock bolt or other hollow elongate member either sequentially or simultaneously without cross contamination of fluids in another passageway or back flow of fluids along the wrong passageway. The invention is typically used to install self drilling rock bolts whereby a drilling fluid is initially pumped through the hollow bolt during the drilling cycle, and then a two part chemical resin or cement grout is pumped through the hollow bolt to anchor the bolt in the borehole.

A cable bolt includes a multi-strand cable segment constructed from steel wire strands, and a drive head. A compressible porous backer rod is placed along cable segment adjacent the drive head. A tubing portion provides a conduit for liquid grout injected under pressure into the bore hole. Tubing portion includes discharge holes that may be predrilled through the wall of the tubing portion. The holes provide a predetermined distribution path for the liquefied grout that is injected into the bore hole. Discharge holes may be evenly dispersed longitudinally along the wall, or distributed to provide a desired, unequal distribution of grout. Distribution holes may be larger at the top of the tubing, or may be distributed adjacent to the top of tubing portion to allow greater cross-sectional flow of grout from the tubing to compensate for factors that restrict grout flow nearer the top.

Disclosed is a method of reinforcing a structure (10) having an elongate hole (14) or drilling the hole having an open proximal end (11) and a closed distal end (16). The method comprises the steps of inserting into the open end of the hole an elongate reinforcement core (20) carrying over at least part of its length an expandable sock (30), introducing a settable liquid (40), such as grout, into the sock at a first pressure so as to cause expansion of the sock toward the wall (18) of the hole (14), the sock being formed from a material which is permeable to the grout so as to allow the liquid to seep through the sock, reducing the pressure in the hole by means of a vacuum tube (23), whilst said introducing step is taking place, to at least a second pressure lower than the first pressure so as to encourage the grout to seep through the sock, to substantially fill the hole. The method also includes the step of ensuring that the vacuum tube extends substantially into the distal quarter of the length of the closed hole. Thus in embodiments of the invention, in producing a vacuum within the hole/drilling the seepage of the liquid or grout through the sock to make contact and bond with the wall of the drilling is increased along the whole length of the drilling.
