Abstract:
Enclosing structures having tubular sections which are elliptical in cross-section, each section being an assembly of prefabricated components corresponding to a portion of the cross-section of the tubular section and including side components and a vault forming upper component, and optionally a base component, the side components having stabilizing members at their lowermost ends, joints being provided to integrally interconnect the components to form a unitary structure.
Abstract:
Two adjoining voussoirs 1, 2 in a tunnel shield are assembled by sandwiching a wedge 12 between their adjacent sides 7, 8. The wedge extends over the entire length and width of the voussoir sides, and has concave surfaces 12a of equal curvature radius to the convex surfaces of the voussoir sides. The angle .alpha. between the adjacent outer surfaces of the voussoirs may be adjusted by varying the radial disposition of the wedge before tightening the assembly. The full mating contact between the voussoir sides and the wedge evenly distributes the applied stress.
Abstract:
Two voussoirs forming part of a tunnel lining have their adjacent longitudinal sides in mutual contact, each side having a convex radial profile. The voussoirs are rigidly locked relative to each other by circumferential bolts 10 and by wedges 15 and 16 wedged into opposing recesses in the adjacent sides by radial bolts 17. In comparison to the 180.degree. relative angular position of the voussoirs which occurs when the radius of the lining is equal to that of the voussoirs, an angular position, higher or lower than 180.degree., can be used in order to obtain a lining radius larger or smaller than that of the voussoirs.
Abstract:
Plastic hose means, preferably of high pressure polyethylene admixed with a flame retarding agent and treated to render the same antistatic and characterized by a resistance to tearing of at least 15 N/mm.sup.2, an extension of at least 450 percent, a resistance to piercing of at least 1.5 J and a resistance to continued tearing of at least 17 N/mm, are disclosed, as is a process for using the hose means for filling the space between the rock face of a mine or tunnel and the supporting structure therefor.
Abstract:
Casing panel comprising voussoirs of the type comprising a web and juxtaposition walls which are substantially perpendicular to the web, wherein two juxtaposed walls, pertaining to two adjacent voussoirs of this panel, define therebetween a cavity for receiving a filling material and have, between said cavity and the outer surface of the webs of the voussoirs, bearing surfaces which are substantially parallel to the direction of the web and bear against each other so as to result in a high pressure drop in the flow of material between the exterior of the webs and the cavity.
Abstract:
A tunnel liner is provided in the form of a plurality of rectilinear arcuate side by side members forming a cylinder, each member having inturned flange on all edges, a triangular low compressibility elastomer member on each corner of each arcuate member, a layer of elastomer foam on each flange surface and triangular member, and means acting on adjacent flanges to draw them together and place the foam under compression.
