Abstract:
Positioning system for determining an operating position of an aerial device, comprising
a mobile distance metering device configured to determine a distance between the distance metering device and a remote environmental surface point and to record the determined distance as distance data, wherein the distance metering device comprises a transmission interface configured to transmit recorded distance data; a mobile terminal comprising a receiver interface configured to receive distance data transmitted from the distance metering device, a memory configured to store dimension data related to physical dimensions of an aerial device, processing means configured for calculating a position and/or a position range of the aerial device within a virtual space from the distance data and the dimension data, and a display configured to display the virtual space comprising a representation of the position and/or the position range of the aerial device within the virtual space.
Abstract:
A cover is provided to protect steps leading to a cab of a vehicle from accumulation of mud, snow, ice and other debris when the vehicle is driven. The cover is pivotally mounted for movement between an open position allowing a vehicle operator to climb the steps and a closed position covering the steps from top to bottom to maintain cleanliness of the steps as the vehicle is driven. The cover can be opened and closed from the top of the steps, either manually or with an actuator. The cover is normally closed when the vehicle is moving and open when the vehicle is stationary.
Abstract:
A warning system for an aerial device which provides an alarm signal when a worker on an aerial work platform is exposed to an electrical hazard. The aerial device has an insulated boom which carries the work platform on its upper end. An electrostatic charge is introduced to all conductive components near the platform. The electrostatic charge is harmless to the worker and dissipates upon contact with an energized power line or grounded object. The absence of charge is then sensed by a warning device which provides an alarm signal.

Abstract:
A ladder attachment platform is provided that includes a base for attachment to a ladder that has first and second side rails and a plurality of rungs that extend between in a lateral direction. Also included is a user platform for having a user stand thereon that is carried by the base. The user platform may be positioned with respect to the ladder so that it is not located between a first plane that extends through the first side rail and is perpendicular to the lateral direction and a second plane that extends through the second side rail and is perpendicular to the lateral direction.
Abstract:
A device for use with a high-altitude working vehicle provided with a vertically and horizontally revolvable and extensible ladder and an operator-carrying lifter movable up and down along the ladder, the device being characterized in that it allows the exension and contraction of the ladder only when the lifter is at a predetermined position, thereby securing safety of the operator riding in the lifter. Other advantages and details of the construction will be made clear.

A protective article and a ladder having a protective article with a body and an adjustable securing feature to attach the protective article to the ladder to cushion against impact by a user is disclosed.
Abstract:
An aerial apparatus swingable outwardly of a fire truck chassis is stabilized by outriggers on opposite sides of the chassis with the aerial apparatus being swingable to one side or the other only if an extendible section of an outrigger for that side has been moved relative to its base section from a storage position to a fully extended outrigging position on that side. The swinging of the apparatus to a side of the chassis is enabled by withdrawing stop means which is spring urged into the path of rotation of the apparatus to that side. The withdrawal of the stop means is actuated mechanically by means on the extendible section engaging and moving an actuating rod carried by the base section for the extendible section to effect operation of a linkage to withdraw the stop means against its spring bias. On retraction of the extendible section from its fully extended position, the spring urged stop means resets as the extendible section leaves the fully extended position. The base and extendible section are moved vertically about a pivot by hydraulic means having a stroke such that the outrigger may also be used as a jack which engages the ground close to the chassis.
Abstract:
A fire truck includes an aerial ladder mounted on a rotatable base and outriggers on each side of the truck to stabilize the ladder in use. The outriggers may be deployed on only one side of the vehicle to permit use in confined areas. The ladder base is interlocked with the outriggers to permit the ladder to be positioned only on the side of the fire truck stabilized by the deployed outriggers. A retractable pin is connected through a mechanical linkage to each outrigger. Stop blocks mounted on opposite sides of the rotatable base contact any extended pins. Rotation of the base is thereby confined to a sector where the pins have been retracted by deployment of the associated outriggers. Small auxiliary jacks on each side of the fire truck are deployed in response to deployment of the outriggers on the opposite side of the truck. The jacks provide stability when the aerial ladder is used as a water tower for supporting a high pressure hose.
