A yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which comprises a pair of rotating circular discs having cooperating friction surfaces for engaging a running yarn at a twisting zone. The drive system for the discs includes a drive component which includes a drive whorl and a coaxial drive pulley, and which is adapted to engage two separate drive belts. The drive component includes a unitary tubular drive member, a central shaft extending through and fixed to the drive member, a sleeve mounted to the frame of the apparatus and extending between the shaft and drive member, and bearings positioned between the shaft and sleeve. Also, the drive component is mounted to the frame by an arrangement which permits adjustment of the rotational axis of the drive whorl about a second axis which perpendicularly intersects the rotational axis, so as to permit accurate alignment of the rotational axis of the whorl along a direction perpendicular to the running direction of the tangential drive belt. The discs are mounted to the frame by a bearing assembly which includes a tubular sleeve which is releasably mounted to the frame, a rotational shaft extending coaxially through the sleeve and mounting the disc at one end, and bearings positioned between the shaft and sleeve.

A method for producing a textured polyester yarn, especially in an in-draw texturing system, in which starting yarn is processed by means of a non-touch type heater under a heater temperature in a range of from 350.degree. C. to 800.degree. C. and a shorter processing time in a range of from 0.04 second to 0.12 second. The dyeing evenness of the fabric made from the resultant yarn is improved because the dyeability of the yarn is almost constant despite fluctuation of the heater temperature. A belt-type twister is preferably utilized for false-twisting a yarn rather than a disc type.

One pulley, which may be of larger diameter than the other driven pulley, is mounted on a pivoted arm to tension the belt and/or allow for the use of differing sized belts or differing sized pulleys to alter the crossing angle of the belt and the twist level applied to the yarn.

Apparatus including two endless aprons, one operating inside the other, the top strands thereof forming a contact zone therebetween. The aprons are angled with respect to each other preferably between 130 and 150 degrees. The yarn applied through the zone is twisted upstream of the zone with respect to a variably adjustable, insertion length stop. The yarn can be heat treated, if desired, upstream or downstream of the contact zone. Alternatively, two or more yarn strands also can be false-twisted in parallel paths through the zone and joined thereafter. By changing the length of insertion of one strand with respect to the other, alternated twist is provided to the combined yarn.

A false-twisting apparatus for producing crimps in filament yarns, comprising: a first group of endless belts each having a straightly extending region between two spaced pulleys; about which it is entrained a second group of belts arranged in vertically zigzag fashion relative to the belts of the first group and each belt of the second group having a straightly extending region between two spaced pulleys about which it is entrained. The straightly extending regions of the second group of belts are positioned in vertical zig-zag and parallel fashion relative to the adjacent similar regions of the belts of the first group the belts of the second group are driven to travel in a direction opposite to that of travel of each of the belts of the first group. Means, further, are provided for detecting the fluctuation in the tension of the filament yarns which are passed in successive contact with the contact surfaces of these straightly extending regions of the belts in zig-zag fashion; as are means for adjusting the positions of inlet and outlet guides of the filament yarns operatively coupled to said tension fluctuation detecting means; and means for adjusting the parallel distances between the respective straightly extending regions of the belts. This apparatus can be operated at a very high speed under a relatively low tension on the filament yarns and insures the production of evenly crimped yarns of high quality at low production as well as construction costs and can occupy less floor area.

A yarn false twisting device in which two motors 30, 40 are installed separately for each of the drive shafts 30a, 40a of each false twist application element, and each motor is controlled by a control unit C in accordance with changes in the yarn tension. The installation of separate motors for each drive shaft of each false twist application element has enabled the elimination of complex power transmission mechanisms such as an endless belt or idler, making the yarn false twisting device more compact. Furthermore, each motor is controlled so as to rotate in mutually synchronic fashion according to changes in the yarn tension, improving the overall quality of false twisted yarn.

Method and apparatus for false twisting a yarn. The apparatus includes false twisting endless belts arranged to intersect each other at a nip point, a pivotally mounted arm having a yarn guide on one end thereof, a pivotally mounted bracket and adjustable cam means for maintaining the arm in separate adjusted positions wherein yarn guided by the yarn guide passes directly through the nip point of the endless belts to provide a predetermined number of false twists to the yarn and wherein the yarn is preliminarily false twisted with a twist number less than the predetermined twist number during initiation of false twisting. The method of the invention includes the steps moving the arm into a position wherein the yarn is engaged with the false twisting endless belts but not at the nip point or intersection thereof to impart initial or preliminary false twisting to the yarn and subsequently positioning the arm so that yarn guided thereby is passed through the nip point between the false twisting endless belts.
