Abstract:
A tool for crushing coke using high-pressure water is attached to a drilling rod through which water flows at high pressure. The tool further a control device for directing the water into either drilling nozzles or cutting nozzles depending on the rotational position of the control device. A switching element driven by water pressure engages the control device to cause the control the device to rotate from one rotational position to another rotational position, thereby changing the tool from cutting to drilling or vice versa.
Abstract:
A mode shifting apparatus for a decoking tool is described herein. A diversion plate can be used to provide selective delivery of a pressurized decoking fluid to one or the other of nozzles in the tool. The mode shifting apparatus can be used to switch between a cutting mode of operation and a drilling mode of operation by rotation of the diversion plate, where a biasing force causes the diversion plate to unseat itself from an adjacent surface of the tool in order to reduce friction forces between them.
Abstract:
A mode shifting apparatus for a decoking tool, a decoking tool and method of operating same. The apparatus includes features to make it rotatably and translationally responsive to changes in pressure of a decoking fluid such that the apparatus is cooperative with the tool and the decoking fluid in a first operating condition to establish a drilling mode with one or more of the tool's drilling nozzles, and in a second operating condition to establish a cutting mode with one or more of the tool's cutting nozzles. In one form, the apparatus includes one or more sets of tandem seals disposed along a component interface within the apparatus or between the apparatus and the tool to help redundantly isolate seizure-sensitive components within the apparatus from the pressurized decoking fluid. In another form, the apparatus includes a gas spring to counteract the forces imposed by the pressurized decoking fluid. In another form, the apparatus includes a manual override connection.
Abstract:
In a tool for cutting up coke in containers, including a housing mounted on a drill stem in the operating condition, and wherein at least one cutting nozzle for cutting and a boring nozzle for boring coke by means of a water jet, and a switching apparatus for controlling the feeding of pressurized water flowing through the drill stem and the housing are arranged, wherein the switching apparatus for switching the tool includes a linearly moveable switching element, a driving apparatus and a control apparatus, which is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the housing as a function of a change of the water pressure by the driving apparatus to switch a valve to distribute the water and to pass it on, wherein depending on each angular position of the control apparatus the flow path of the water to the boring nozzle or the flow path to the cutting nozzle is free or obstructed, the switching apparatus is arranged in the housing of the tool above the area in which a separation of the supply path of the water is provided in the housing into flow channels for the water to be fed to the boring nozzle and the cutting nozzle, and the switching apparatus, for rotating the control apparatus by the desired angle, includes a switching element arranged in the water flow path and moveable transverse to the longitudinal axis of the housing, wherein the switching element is coupled with a member for converting the linear movement of the switching element into a rotational movement of the control apparatus.
Abstract:
A tool for crushing coke includes a casing which in the operational state is connected to a drill rod and on or in which is arranged at least one cutting nozzle and one drill nozzle for drilling coke and at least one valve for controlling a direction of flow of water flowing through the drill rod and the casing through the cutting nozzle and the drill nozzle.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system that allows an operator to remotely switch between cutting and boring while removing solid carbonaceous residue from large cylindrical vessels called coke drums comprising a cutting head for ejecting high pressure fluids into the coke bed; a flow diversion apparatus; and a shifting apparatus.
Abstract:

Abstract:
An apparatus for a decoking system, for raising and lowering a cutting tool into a coking drum, has at least one rigid vertical member extending above the coking drum with a toothed rack extending substantially the full height of the member. A rigid frame with provisions for mounting a cutting tool is movably mounted to the rigid vertical member. A motor is mounted to the rigid frame and powers a pinion gear which is drivably engaged on the toothed rack such that rotation of the pinion gear raises or lowers the rigid frame on the vertical member.
