The present technology describes various embodiments of systems and methods for handling emissions. More specifically, some embodiments are directed to systems and methods for collecting heated particulate from a coal processing system. In one embodiment, a method of handling emissions from a coal processing system includes inletting the emissions into a duct. The emissions include heated particulate. The method further includes slowing a speed of the emissions traveling through the duct and disengaging the heated particulate from the emissions without the use of a physical barrier. In some embodiments, the heated particulate is slowed, cooled, and diverted from an emissions pathway into a collection bin.

A method for extracting flue gases from a coke oven chamber, wherein the flue gases that develop briefly during the process of discharging and charging the coke cake from and to the coke oven chamber are extracted by a vacuum generated in the headspace above the coke cake. The vacuum in the headspace above the coke oven chamber is generated via channels through the lateral walls of the coke oven chamber or in the coke cake. The vacuum is generated in the secondary heating chamber and, by way of example, can be extracted again from a vacuum supply tank which, for the time that the coke oven chamber doors are open, is connected to the secondary heating chamber by opening shut-off devices in the connecting line. The method avoids the undesirable emission of flue gases into the atmosphere. A device whereby the method can be carried out is also disclosed.

Individual coke ovens in a nonrecovery coke oven battery are charged through an open door at the pushing end of the ovens, and emissions escaping through the open door of the respective ovens during charging are captured by a hood mounted on the pushing and charging machine for movement therewith along the pushing side of the battery and for movement thereon from a retracted position spaced outwardly from the ovens and a capturing position above the open oven door. Air and emissions captured by the hood are withdrawn and passed through an air cleaner mounted on the pushing and charging machine to remove smoke and particulates before being discharged to the atmosphere.

A gas jumper arrangement for a coke oven is composed of adjacently arranged coke oven chambers each having a gas opening with rims at the top portion thereof. The gas jumper arrangement overlaps gas openings of two adjacent coke oven chambers by one lid chamber each. The two lid chambers are connected in a duct-like manner by a gas jumper pipe and lids covering the gas openings during filling of a coke oven chamber are displaceable from an opened position into a closed position and settable into a rotational movement within the lid chambers by an actuation device. In order to ensure the tightness of the gas openings at the rims thereof even at larger pressure fluctuations and to enable the introduction of inert gas into the gas jumper arrangment, both the lid and the rim of each gas opening includes valve-face type sealing surfaces that mate with each other when pressed against each other in the closed position of the lid. A feed line for supplying an inert gas runs into the gas jumper arrangement. An inert gas pressure prevails in the gas jumper arrangement with the lids closed which is in excess of the pressure prevailing in the coke oven chambers.

A coke dry quenching installation has a cooling chamber having a top charging opening, a travelling crane above the cooling chamber, and a coke bucket on the travelling crane movable to a position above the top charging opening and having a cover thereon. A hopper chute is positioned between the coke bucket and the top charging opening on the cooling chamber and is movable laterally toward and away from a position over the top charging opening, the hopper chute having a bottom opening which when the hopper chute is over the top charging opening is aligned in substantial gas tight alignment with the top charging opening. The coke bucket has a bottom opening which engages in sealing engagement with the top opening of the hopper chute when the coke bucket is lowered toward the cooling chamber by the travelling crane. A waste gas collecting system for the installation has a first dust collecting duct extending from the cover of the coke bucket laterally thereof, a second dust collection duct extending laterally from the hopper chute, a main dust collecting duct adjacent the cooling chamber, a first branch duct extending from the main duct and having a free end in a position where it is connected to the free end of said first duct when the coke bucket is in position on the hopper chute, and a second branch duct extending from the main duct and having a free end in a position where it is connected to the free end of the second duct when the hopper chute is in position over the top charging opening of the cooling chamber.
