    摘要: The invention provides methods and compositions for inhibiting the accumulation of DSP scale in the liquor circuit of Bayer process equipment. The method includes adding one or more GPS-surfactant based small molecules to the liquor fluid circuit. These scale inhibitors reduce DSP scale formation and thereby increase fluid throughput, increase the amount of time Bayer process equipment can be operational and reduce the need for expensive and dangerous acid washes of Bayer process equipment. As a result, the invention provides a significant reduction in the total cost of operating a Bayer process.

    摘要: Materials and a method are provided whereby polymers with least 0.5 mole % of the pendant group or end group containing —Si(OR″)3 (where R″ is H, an alkyl group, Na, K, or NH4) are used to control aluminosilicate scaling in an industrial process having an alkaline process stream such as a pulping mill process stream. When materials of the present invention are added to the alkaline process stream, they reduce and even completely prevent formation of aluminosilicate scale on equipment surfaces such as evaporator walls and heating surfaces. The present materials are effective at treatment concentrations that make them economically practical.

    摘要: A process for the removal of organic impurities in a Bayer process liquor in which wet and dry oxidation processes are linked together in a complementary way, such that the weaknesses of each individual organic removal process become a strength of the combined process. An organics-rich liquor stream is fed to a wet oxidation process to produce a first processed liquor which is depleted in organic compounds, but enriched in sodium carbonate and/or sodium oxalate. A feed slurry is fed to the dry oxidation process, typically including a liquor burner, where sodium compounds react to produce a discharge product. The first processed liquor and discharge product are directed into a leach tank, resulting in the formation of precipitated products including sodium carbonate and/or sodium oxalate. The precipitated products are separated from the leach tank and recycled in a mix tank providing the feed slurry to the liquor burner.

    摘要: A process is described for removing dissolved silica from process solutions or slurries formed in the Bayer process for producing alumina from bauxite. In the novel process, a Bayer process solution or slurry is contacted with porous agglomerates of a material containing Bayer process desilication product and bonded together by a polymer resin which is resistant to chemical degradation by high concentrations of caustic present in Bayer process liquors. The desilication product is essentially complex hydrated sodium aluminum silicates and typical bonding resins are polyvinylchloride or polypropylene.
