    1-25% w/w of a self-sustaining decomposition additive, wherein the decomposition additive is selected from the group of copper (Cu), aluminium (Al), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), molybdenum (Mo), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), cobalt oxides (Co2O3 and Co3O4), copper oxide (CuO), iron oxide (Fe2O3), zinc oxide (ZnO), manganese oide (MnO), manganese dioxide (MnO2), chrome (Cr), chrome oxides, titanium, titanium oxides, and combinations thereof;
    65-97% w/w of an oxygen generating component, wherein the oxygen generating component is selected from the group of alkali chlorates and alkali perchlorates, and alkali superoxides;
    2-5% w/w of an inorganic binder;
    wherein said weight percentages are based upon the weight of the total solid material, wherein said solid material has a skeletal density of 2.8-3.5 g/cm3,
    wherein said solid material has a porosity of 30-50%, and wherein in said chemical mixture components are provided as particles having a volume particle size distribution having its peak between 5 and 100 μm.

    摘要: A compact ignition system for chemical oxygen generators for possible use in an aircraft. The chemical oxygen generator is configured such that a majority of the ignition system can be accommodated within an interior of the generator body. In some embodiments, the ignition system is positioned within a recess of an upper surface of the core of the generator. Housing a majority of the ignition system within the generator allows the overall oxygen-generating capacity of the generator to be increased without requiring a corresponding increase in the overall length of the generator.

An end of a first core section is contiguous with a chemical core high reactivity section, and a thermal insulation layer is disposed between an end of a second core section and the chemical core ignition plate, as well as between the bodies of the first and second core sections. A chemical core transition section is disposed between the other end of the first core section and the second core section, to insure that the reaction front propagates properly.

    摘要: The invention relates to a process for the production of chlorine dioxide in an apparatus comprising a reaction vessel holding a reaction medium and a circulation conduit leading through a heater for the reaction medium, said process comprising the steps of continuously: a) maintaining the reaction medium at subatmospheric pressure and a temperature sufficient for evaporating water; b) circulating reaction medium through the circulation conduit and the heater; c) reacting alkali metal chlorate, sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide in the reaction medium to form chlorine dioxide, oxygen and alkali metal sulfate; d) feeding alkali metal chlorate, sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide to the reaction medium, wherein the sulfuric acid is fed through an inlet into the circulation conduit and the hydrogen peroxide is fed through an inlet directly into the reaction vessel or through an inlet into the circulation conduit down-streams the inlet for sulfuric acid at a distance in the flow direction therefrom of at least about the inner diameter of the circulation conduit; and, e) withdrawing a gas comprising chlorine dioxide, oxygen and evaporated water. The invention further relates to an apparatus for the production of chlorine dioxide.

    摘要: An improved chemical oxygen generator (10) includes an oxygen generating candle (12) having an oxygen source, which upon decomposition will yield oxygen, and a nontoxic additive to smooth decomposition and suppress formation of toxic free chlorine gas. The nontoxic additive may be taken from the group consisting of: (1) the oxides, hydroxides and carbonates of calcium and the rare earth elements; (2) the hydroxides and carbonates of magnesium; and (3) mixtures of the foregoing. A complete chemical oxygen generator utilizes the candle (12) of the invention. The oxygen generator preferably includes a canister (14), oxygen-generating candle (12), and an ignition device (16). Triggering of the ignition device ignites an ignition pellet (52) which initiates decomposition of the candle body (50). Once initiated, the candle will sustain decomposition to release breathable oxygen until the candle is completely reacted.
