摘要： An apparatus and method is described herein for automatically labeling using labels having a fluid activatable adhesive along the back surface of such label. The apparatus has multiple pallets each being positionable with the lowermost label of a stack of one or more labels to releasably secure by suction the label against the pallet, and multiple pads each being positionable with respect to pallets to receive labels from the pallets and then releasably retain such labels until application onto containers. Fluid for activating adhesive is applied by an applicator onto labels retained upon the pad to change the fluid activatable adhesive along the label's back surface from a non-tacky state to a tacky state just prior to application of the label onto container.

This activation unit can include one or more of the following: a pressure roller, a pair of pressure rollers, an activator blade, a set of rotatable discs or a series of sets of rotatable discs. A sheet media having an encapsulated adhesive is fed past the activator unit in the system and method, whereby the capsules will be ruptured and the adhesive side of the sheet media is activated. A release liner device such as a belt or roll of releasable sheet media transports the activated sheet media throughout subsequent process steps, e.g. label printing, cutting, die casting, etc.

摘要： Providing a thermal activation device for heat-sensitive self-adhesive sheet and a printer assembly employing the same, the device capable of thermally activating the heat-sensitive self-adhesive sheet in any of various patterns according the use thereof, and of developing at least a predetermined adhesive force on the overall surface of the sheet. The thermal activation device at least comprises a thermal head serving as thermally-activating heating means for thermally activating a heat-sensitive adhesive layer of the heat-sensitive self-adhesive sheet including a sheet-like substrate having a printable surface on one side thereof and the heat-sensitive adhesive layer on the other side thereof, and including an array of heat generating elements individually controllably energized; and energy control means for applying one or more shots of voltage pulse to the plural heat generating elements for energization thereby thermally activating an area of the heat-sensitive self-adhesive sheet that can be thermally activated by the thermal head in one step, and is characterized in that when plural shots of voltage pulses are applied to the heat generating elements of the thermal head for thermally activating the heat-sensitive self-adhesive sheet, the energy control means can selectively change a heat generating element(s) to be energized by the voltage pulse each time the voltage pulse is applied.

An activating solution is sprayed by a sprayer onto a label pallet or directly onto a surface of a label containing an activatable coating or layer thereon. The activating solution activates the activatable coating or layer. The label is adhered to a container by placing the activated coating or layer of the label in contact with a surface of the container. The sprayer may deliver the activating solution to a surface of a label pallet or label with an even wet-out.
