摘要:
A system for retrieving a device from the bottom of a body of water includes a clamp configured to be slidably affixed to the device above the water bottom. The clamp has a selectively engageable lock to fix a position of the clamp on the device. A line ratchet is coupled to the clamp. A line is disposed through the line ratchet. A first flotation device is coupled to one end of the line. A second flotation device is coupled to the other end of the line. The system includes means for applying tension to the line disposed proximate the second flotation device. The line ratchet is arranged to enable movement of the line therethrough toward the means for applying tension, and is also arranged to substantially prevent motion therethrough in the opposite direction.

Method for carrying out operations under water by means of a crane (3) equipped with a tool which is erected on a pontoon (1) which has been fixed and which can be jacked up, wherein an underwater working room (4) which is mainly open at the bottom is let down on the place of work, in that the water is pushed out of this working room (4) by means of compressed air, in that the place of work is divided in compartments in the working room (4) itself, i.e. out of the water, and in that one or several positions of the compartment division in which the crane (3) will have to carry out an operation are transmitted to the crane (3), after which the underwater working room (4) is lifted and the crane carries (3) out the operation.

A release mechanism is provided for a structural member, such as a cylindal object recovery device, wherein the structural member has top and bottom sides. The release mechanism includes a block which is attachable to the structural member so as to extend thereabove. A piston is mounted in the block and is moveable vertically between up and down positions. At least one rod is connected to the piston and extends vertically downwardly beyond the bottom side of the structural member so as to be capable of moving the piston to the upward position when forcibly engaged by the object. A U-shaped holder is fitted over the block with each leg of the holder having a recess. A pair of pistons is laterally mounted in the U-shaped block in an opposing relationship, and each piston is moveable between inward and outward positions. Each lateral piston is engageable with the holder within the holder recess in the outward position so as to retain the U-shaped holder to the block, and each lateral piston clears the respective holder recess in the inward position so as to release the U-shaped holder from the block. A rod is connected to each lateral piston and extends inwardly within the block for engagement and disengagement with the vertical piston as the vertical piston moves from its down position to its up position. A spring arrangement is provided for biasing each lateral piston toward the inward position. Each rod maintains the respective lateral piston in its outward holder engaging position when the lateral piston rod is in engagement with the vertical piston. Further, each rod allows the respective lateral piston to be spring biased to its inward disengaged position with respect to the holder when the lateral piston rod is disengaged from the vertical piston. With this arrangement forcible engagement of the bottom of the vertical rod with the cylindrical object will cause the vertical piston to move upwardly and allow the lateral pistons to move inwardly to release the U-shaped holder from the block and the structural member.

A recovery tool is designed to be actuated by the manipulator of an under vehicle. The undersea vehicle approaches an object to be recovered and its manipulator arm grips a pair of spring biased actuators. Linkage or lever arms extend from each of the actuators to off-center portions of a pair of pivotally mounted tongs. Squeezing the actuators together separates the tongs and they are placed about the object. When the pressures are released, the actuators force the tongs to grasp the object. A hoisting cable, coupled in a centrally in-lined position with respect to the tongs, hauls the object upward which causes the tongs to grip the object more securely.
