A modular hollow block structure (1) includes: a plurality of hollow block members (2) made by rotational moulding a plastic material into a hollow right parallelepiped shape, with two or more cylindrical holes (4) passing transversely through the hollow block members (2); and at least one connecting post (6) passing through the cylindrical holes (4) in adjacent hollow block members (2), and that includes a securing device (8) whereby it can be secured to the hollow block members (2) once fitted.

A floating structure has an annular support as an underwater support with a buoyant body. A tower penetrates the annular support centrally and is connected to the annular support at a location underneath the annular support by slantedly outwardly ascending tension spokes and at a location above the annular support by slantedly outwardly descending tension spokes. Anchors on the ocean floor are connected by tension elements with the annular support. The structure is built by the steps of supporting by auxiliary devices the annular support on a floor of a basin that can be flooded; positioning the tower at the center of the annular support in vertical position; attaching the tension spokes at the annular support and at the tower; flooding the basin; towing the structure to its desired final position; and lowering and anchoring the structure in a submerged floating position.

Novel prefabricated structural components such as precast concrete boxes having forms including rectangular parallelepipeds and hexagonal cylinders are disclosed which can be assembled together and/or with structural shapes disclosed in U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,697,736 and 5,697,473 to form waterfront structures such as seawalls, levees and breakwaters. Novel methods of waterborne transport and installation of the boxes and arrays thereof are disclosed, including modular vessels having bow and stern sections which can be connected directly together or mounted to a mid-section containing assemblies of such boxes, other structural elements or other vessels such as floating drydocks. Modular vessels can be assembled with any or all of the bow, midship and stern sections comprising honeycomb arrays of vertically-oriented hexagonal boxes.

A modular floating dock system utilizing steel frame modules that are interconnected to form the dock system desired, the modules preferably having a concrete deck and pontoons or floats with the modules being interconnected with high strength bolts with a primary shock pad being interposed between adjacent modules.

A very large hydrocarbon production vessel (10) of at least 40,000 tons steel weight, is constructed without requiring a very long reserve time period in a very large dry dock. The hull of the vessel is constructed in at least three different hull sections, including a midship hull section (24) and bow and stern hull sections (20, 22), with each preferably constructed at a different construction site. The hull sections are then brought together in a very large dry dock and welded together, so a minimum amount of time must be reserved in the very large dry dock. The midship hull section is preferably constructed in a specialized shipyard, and the same shipyard installs drilling equipment (50) and equipment that connects to risers that bring up hydrocarbons, so the expertise of the shipyard is used for both the midsection hull construction and specialized drilling and riser handling equipment.

Novel precast concrete boxes are disclosed which can be assembled together and/or with structural shapes disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,697,736 to form waterfront structures such as seawalls, boathouses and the like. The boxes can be sized and proportioned so as to be conveniently assembled in such structures and to be easily transported via intermodal transportation media. Novel methods of waterborne transport and installation of the boxes are disclosed. Shellfish habitats based upon the boxes are also disclosed.

A multichambered boat that is constructed upside-down on stationary platforms where flotation chambers are located in the perimeter portion of the multichambered boat. The perimeter chambers have a laterally downward sloping exterior surface that directs fluid downwardly and provides lift to the multichambered boat which creates a smoother ride. A fuel input line that passes through the flotation chamber to the fuel storage tank to provide convenient access for refueling the multichambered boat.

A precast, modular marine structure and method of constructing the same for offshore use, including but not limited to drilling, oil and gas production, and oil storage in a variety of water depths. The marine structure includes an equalized pressure system and concrete modular components cast with at least one cell and a central longitudinal passageway. The equalized pressure system fluidly connects the cell(s) to the adjacent body of water by at least one substantially vertical segmented water column to equalize the hydrostatic pressure differential experienced at a wall of the marine structure. A truss section may be attached to the concrete portion of the marine structure to form a truss spar. A mooring and tether system may be included to maintain the marine structure's station and attitude. Construction of a marine structure includes assembly line techniques to form and cast individual modular components (such as a segment or module) in a position which encourages the pouring and curing of a concrete slurry; slipping the modular component from its form; translating the modular component into a position for mating with other modular components; and mating and connecting modular components with tendons to achieve a unitary marine structure.

A modular offshore movable drilling platform support includes a double-layer dodecahedrous float having an outer dodecahedrous structure and an inner dodecahedrous structure defining a sealed volume therebetween. The outer dodecahedrous structure is anchored to the ocean floor by tout mooring polyester fiber ropes or aramid guide ropes, and the inner dodecahedrous structure is tied to the ocean floor directly through the use of a riser system. The sealed volume between the inner and outer dodecahedrous structures provides a buoyancy force upon installation of the dodecahedrous float in its position offshore. Both the outer and the inner dodecahedrous structures have 12 pentagonal surfaces formed by the use of rigid Y substructural space components, which contribute to simplified erection process with substantial saving in erection time. The need for expensive underwater welding is minimized in this construction. This system can be easily salvaged or moved to other locations for reuse with a minimum environmental impact when it is found that no productive well can be made at the exploratory site. Once a production well is located, the platform can be converted to a permanent production platform with very little effort.

A construction system for ships utilizing three basic units which are attached together to form an integrated streamlined hull design suitable for navigation. The hull unit has an open area or slot in the stern portion with two side arms or wings into which the propulsion unit is placed and to which the propulsion unit is securedly attached. The accommodation/navigation unit is fixedly attached to the deck of the propulsion unit and secured by self hardening material, such as concrete, polyurethane and the like. The basic three units are originally constructed as independent units and are integrated in accordance with ship's specifications to be used as cargo vessels or passenger vessels.
