Abstract:
A assemblage for mounting a caster wheel on a depending stationary post on a wheeled load carrier comprises a body element having a cylindrical chamber concentrically surrounding the support post. The body element has a bracket for mounting a caster wheel for rotation about a horizontal axis. A vertical stack of washers surround the support post and alternate ones of such washers are secured to the support post and rotatable within the cylindrical chamber while the remainder of such washers are co-rotatable with the body element about the axis of the support post. The cylindrical chamber is filled with a lubricating fluid to a sufficient depth to cover all abutting surfaces of said washers, thereby providing viscous fluid shearing resistance to shimmying movement of the caster wheel relative to the support post. To maintain the friction between the support post and body element independent of the amount of load, anti-friction thrust bearings are provided between the support post and the body element.

Abstract:
A stroller chassis includes a frame and a wheel that are connected to each other by a hinge defining a pivoting axis extending perpendicularly to the wheel's axis. The chassis can also include a bearing for guiding the frame and the wheel in free rotation about the axis. The chassis can include two plates, each including an annular body substantially centered with respect to the pivoting axis and arranged externally around the bearing. The two annular bodies are connected rotatably about the pivoting axis to the frame and the wheel and define substantially planar surfaces on the plate surfaces, the planar surfaces being mutually adjoining along a plane that is transverse to the pivoting axis. The plates cooperate with one another through sliding and frictional contact. The Chassis can also include resilient member for pressing the annular bodies against each other to maintain contact between the planar surfaces.
Abstract:
A caster retention device is disclosed that supresses flutter or shimmy of a caster wheel and that is easily adjustable. The device includes a caster stem receiving chamber in which a bushing is disposed. The bushing receives a caster stem assembly that includes bearing elements. An adjustable locking device secures the stem assembly within the bushing and is positioned at an opening of the receiving chamber. In one embodiment the device may include first and second collars that are useful for adjusting a preload on the bearings.
Abstract:
A steering assist system (SAS) for a cart is provided. The SAS may include an activation mechanism, a first actuation mechanism, a first support mechanism, a first linkage mechanism, a first stopping mechanism, and a first engagement mechanism. The first stopping mechanism may be configured to abut the first engagement mechanism to impede or prevent rotational movement of at least one wheel of the cart. The first actuation mechanism may be connected to the first linkage mechanism and the first linkage mechanism may be connected to the first stopping mechanism. The activation mechanism may be configured to activate the first actuation mechanism, causing the first linkage mechanism and the first stopping mechanism to move. The first stopping mechanism may be configured to move between a fully activated position and a fully deactivated position.
Abstract:
This stroller chassis comprises a frame (10) and at least one wheel (20) resting on the ground, which are connected to each other by a mechanical hinge assembly (40) defining a pivoting axis (Z40-Z40), which extends perpendicularly to the wheel rolling axis on the ground (Y20-Y20) and about which pivoting axis the frame and the wheel pivot with respect to each other, and also comprising at least one bearing (42) for guiding the frame and the wheel in free rotation about said axis with respect to each other. To improve the comfort and safety of the stroller chassis in a simple and effective manner, the hinge assembly comprises in addition: two plates (43, 44), each including an annular body (45, 46) which is centered substantially with respect to the pivoting axis (Z40-Z40) and which is arranged externally around the bearing(s) (42), said two annular bodies being connected rotatably about the pivoting axis (Z40-Z40) to the frame (10) and the wheel (20) respectively and defining respective substantially planar surfaces (47, 48) on one (45A, 46A) of the axial end surfaces thereof, said planar surfaces being mutually adjoining along an adjoining plane (P), which is transverse to the pivoting axis, cooperating with one another by means of sliding and frictional contact; and resilient means (49) for pressing the respective annular bodies (45, 46) of the plates (43, 44) against each other and thus maintaining the planar surfaces (47, 48) applied against each other in the direction of the pivoting axis (Z40-Z40).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for the optional guiding of at least one self-steering wheel of a trolley. According to the invention, the wheel is of the type that is mounted on a support that pivots around a vertical axis. The device comprises: a push bar which forms a dual-articulated steering member that can be accessed by the user; means for rotating a first clutch part about the vertical axis in response to steering member movements; and means which can be used at will to couple and uncouple the first clutch part in relation to a second clutch part which is solidly connected to the aforementioned support of the wheel, in response to other steering member movements. In addition, a coin-operated locking device for preventing the movement of the trolley is built into a casing which houses a transmission element of the guiding device and which is fixed to the push bar of the trolley.
Abstract:
A device for use with a bearing construction for a swivel caster mountable on a caster mounting plate and including a yoke having a swivel plate pivotal about a pivot axis. A securing device is provided for securing the yoke to the caster mounting plate. The bearing construction is composed of a ball bearing retaining structure which normally abuts against the underside of the caster mounting plate. An elastomeric member is mounted between the bearing construction and the caster mounting plate. The elastomeric member has a compressible characteristic sufficient to maintain the caster firmly connected to the mounting plate while simultaneously being capable of yielding to a sufficiently large force applied to the yoke to permit a relative movement between the mounting plate and the yoke to thereby prevent permanent deformation to the yoke when an abnormally high force is applied thereto. The securing device includes structure for limiting the initial compression of the elastomeric member between the bearing construction and the mounting plate.
