    摘要: A vehicle safety system includes a module including an airbag and an inflator. The inflator includes a housing (12) in which a combustion chamber (16) containing a pyrotechnic propellant is arranged in which hot gas is generated and which housing includes at least one escape orifice (22) toward the environment of the inflator (10), as well as a coolant reservoir (24) arranged in the housing (12) in which coolant is accommodated prior to activation of the inflator (10) and which has at least one coolant outlet orifice (28′). The coolant outlet orifice (28) is arranged in direct vicinity of the outlet orifice (22). Upon activation of the inflator (10) coolant flows out of the inflator into the protection system and wets an adjacent wall (32) of the protection system against which also the hot gas is flowing.

    摘要: A gas generator includes a case enclosing a combustion chamber containing at least one pyrotechnic charge, a diffusion chamber, and a chamber for storing a material releasable from the chamber during combustion of the charge, to change state endothermically under the effect of gas coming from this combustion, then be evacuated via the diffusion chamber. The material is a liquid stored at atmospheric pressure. The chamber has at least one inlet opening, and a series of outlet openings. The outlet openings are arranged within a wall separating the chamber from the diffusion chamber. The charge and the combustion and diffusion chambers are dimensioned such that during combustion, at least one portion of gas flow generated by the charge opens at least the inlet opening and penetrates into the chamber provoking the escape of the material via the outlet openings, then its endothermic change in state, mainly in the diffusion chamber.

    摘要: The present invention discloses a hybrid inflator of an airbag. The hybrid inflator of the airbag includes a main casing, a central channel, a vent tube, a rupture disc, an inner cover group, an igniter group, a first buffering pad, a second buffering pad and a diffuser. The main casing includes a bottom housing and an upper housing. The central channel is fixed with the bottom housing and passed through the upper housing. A convective hole is disposed on the central channel. The vent tube is covered onto the external central channel and has a throttle bore thereon. The first buffering pad is disposed on a bottom of the inter air chamber. The second buffering pad is disposed in the inner air chamber to separate a space for propellant. The diffuser is correspondingly covered and fixed on the main casing.

    摘要: An improved liquid propellant airbag inflator including a tubular sidewall internally defining a combustion chamber and a propellant reservoir separated by a piston. A propellant injection port connecting the combustion chamber to the propellant reservoir is defined by a propellant guide surface of the tubular sidewall receiving the piston. According to one embodiment of the invention, the propellant injection port is provided in the form of a plurality of longitudinal grooves. According to another embodiment of the invention, an inner diameter of the propellant guide surface is larger than an outside diameter of the piston so that a gap, acting as the propellant injection port, is created between the propellant guide surface and the piston. The present invention also provides an improved liquid propellant airbag inflator including a tubular sidewall internally defining a combustion chamber and a propellant reservoir separated by a piston, wherein the sidewall defines a series of gas exhaust ports communicating with the combustion chamber. A cylindrical exhaust sleeve extends from the piston into the combustion chamber and seals the gas exhaust ports until the inflator is initiated and the piston is forced into the propellant reservoir. The present invention additionally provides an improved liquid propellant airbag inflator including a tubular sidewall internally defining a coolant reservoir, a combustion chamber and a propellant reservoir, with a propellant piston separating the propellant reservoir from the combustion chamber, and a coolant piston, independent from the propellant piston, separating the coolant reservoir from the combustion chamber.

    摘要: An inflator including a housing with a first chamber that contains a quantity of gas generant. An initiator is operatively associated with the first chamber and in reaction initiating communication with at least a portion of the quantity of gas generant. The initiator, upon actuation, acts to ignite at least a portion of the quantity of gas generant to form gas. The housing further has a second chamber adjacently disposed to the first chamber. The second chamber contains a sealed storage reservoir and a piston assembly. The sealed storage reservoir includes a liner and a lid and contains a quantity of liquid. The piston assembly includes a piston. During deployment, the piston moves to unseal the storage reservoir to release at least a portion of the quantity of liquid such that the released liquid contacts and cools gas formed by the ignition of the gas generant. A discharge opening permits gas to exit the housing.
