摘要: In accordance with an embodiment, a ribbon holding shaft winds an ink ribbon before printing. A ribbon winding shaft winds the ink ribbon after printing to collect the ink ribbon. A feed motor rotationally drives the ribbon holding shaft. A winding motor rotationally drives the ribbon winding shaft. A detection module detects slackness of the ink ribbon stretched between the ribbon holding shaft and the ribbon winding shaft. A ribbon feed control module forward rotates the winding motor to draw out the ink ribbon from the ribbon holding shaft to the printing section and further controls the ribbon winding shaft to wind the ink ribbon. A reverse rotation control module reversely rotates the feed motor to stretch the ink ribbon between the ribbon holding shaft and the ribbon winding shaft if the detection module detects the slackness of the ink ribbon.

摘要: A ribbon guide used to install a thermal ribbon in a thermal printer, the ribbon guide having a bottle shaped profile and being formed of V-Max® brand synthetic paper. The ribbon guide has three integral portions, a first portion having a cross-shaped slit and a hole, a second portion that may be used for gripping by an operator, and a third portion for receiving printed advertising and/or other useful information. The cross-shaped slit receives the very thin thermal ribbon and allows the ribbon guide to connect and hold the thermal ribbon during installation of the thermal ribbon in the thermal printer. After loading a reel of thermal ribbon onto a supply spindle and connecting the thermal ribbon to the ribbon guide, an operator may grip the second portion of the ribbon guide, and thread the ribbon guide through the internal mechanisms of the thermal printer including passed a print head to a reel on a take-up spindle. Using the ribbon guide reduces thermal ribbon handling by an operator. The ribbon guide may also be used as an advertising platform and as a helpful tool.

摘要: A ribbon cartridge for a printer. The ribbon cartridge including a simple mechanism that prevents an ink ribbon from being twisted or excessively drawn out in mounting thereof. Provided is a ribbon cartridge for printing, which includes: an ink ribbon; a cartridge main body which stores the ink ribbon so as to expose a part of the ink ribbon; a ribbon guide which is engaged with the exposed part of the ink ribbon so as to guide the exposed part; and a guide tape which forms a loop so as to support the ribbon guide while having one end in its longitudinal direction fixed to a first position on the ribbon guide and having the other end fixed to a second position on the ribbon guide and which is disposed so that a surface of the guide tape can face a surface of the exposed part of the ink ribbon.

摘要: In a dye transfer printer, a donor web having successive dye transfer areas and opposite longitudinal edge areas alongside each one of the dye transfer areas is subjected to a longitudinal tension when the donor web is advanced in the printer. The longitudinal tension can stretch the dye transfer areas more than the edge areas because the dye transfer areas, but not the edge areas, are heated at a print head. According to the invention, the resistance of the edge areas relative to the dye transfer areas, to being stretched, is weakened so that the edge areas can be stretched substantially the same as the dye transfer areas. If the edge areas alongside a dye transfer area being used are stretched substantially the same as the dye transfer area, the likelihood of any creases being created in the next unused transfer area is substantially reduced. Thus, no line artifacts will be printed on a dye receiver during dye transfer in the printer.

摘要: A method of equalizing web-stretching caused by web tensioning in a dye transfer printer that is for use with a donor web having a dye transfer area and opposite edge areas alongside the dye transfer area, includes the steps of heating a dye transfer area to effect a dye transfer from the dye transfer area to a dye receiver, and heating the edge areas alongside the dye transfer area less than the dye transfer area is heated to effect the dye transfer, but sufficiently so that the edge areas may be stretched by tension substantially the same as the dye transfer area may be stretched. If the edge areas alongside a dye transfer area being used in the printer are stretched substantially the same as the dye transfer area, the likelihood of any creases being created in the next unused transfer area is substantially reduced. Thus, no line artifacts will be printed on a dye receiver in the printer.

摘要: Method and associated apparatus for positioning a thermal donor media, having a plurality of transfer panels, each having a transfer area that is greater than the total area of a number of receiving media, such that a single transfer panel can provide an area of donor exclusively to each of the number of receiving media. The dimensions of unused areas of the thermal donor media are matched with the dimensions of the next to-be-printed image to enable a transfer printing to take place at an area that has dimensions that are equal to or greater than that required for the printed image. When an available area is identified the thermal donor media is moved into alignment and the transfer takes place. In one embodiment of the invention the thermal donor media is in the form of a ribbon that is wound between driven spools to bring unused areas into vertical printing alignment with the receiving media and the receiving media is displaced transverse to the ribbon to provide a horizontal alignment.
