Abstract: A recording head ejects ink using nozzles. A control unit determines nozzles corresponding to an image to be printed and causes the recording head to eject ink from the nozzles. A correction processing unit detects an ejection malfunction nozzle and performs a correction process corresponding to the ejection malfunction nozzles. The correction processing unit causes a secondary adjacent nozzle of the ejection malfunction nozzle to perform ink ejection with a first ink ejection amount if ink ejection of a primary adjacent nozzle of ejection malfunction nozzle is performed earlier than ink ejection of the secondary adjacent nozzle and causes the secondary adjacent nozzle to perform ink ejection with a second ink ejection amount if ink ejection of the primary adjacent nozzle is performed later than ink ejection of the secondary adjacent nozzle. Here, the second ink ejection amount is smaller than the first ink ejection amount.

Abstract: A droplet discharge apparatus includes a discharge device, a plurality of waveform generation units, a plurality of correction units, and a drive unit. The discharge device discharges droplets of a plurality of droplet types according to a plurality of drive waveforms. The plurality of waveform generation units individually generate drive waveforms used to discharge each of the plurality of droplet types. The plurality of correction units individually correct the drive waveforms generated by each of the plurality of waveform generation units, using correction magnifications different corresponding to the drive waveforms generated by the plurality of waveform generation units, to generate correction waveforms. The drive unit causes the discharge device to discharge the droplets according to corrected drive waveforms generated by individually switching the drive waveform corresponding to the plurality of droplet types to the correction waveforms.

Abstract: An image processing method, an apparatus, a program, and an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing an artifact in a boundary part of a threshold value matrix and performing high-quality correction even in a case where defective recording elements are concentrated are provided. An image processing method according to an aspect of the present invention includes performing correction of suppressing visibility of an image defect using recording elements around a defective recording element of a recording head by disabling the defective recording element, and performing quantization of data of an image, in which processing of the quantization includes applying a first threshold value matrix to a first image region that is separated by more than a first distance from a defective image region, applying a second threshold value matrix to a second image region separated by less than the first distance, and applying a third threshold value matrix to a third image region at a boundary between the first image region and the second image region.

Abstract: A method of inkjet printer operation produces a sneeze pattern having a uniform sneeze pattern portion and a tapered area portion within the uniform sneeze pattern to operate inkjets in the printer to eject ink drops within an image area of media sheets passing through the printer to maintain the operational status of the inkjets. A dynamic threshold is applied to a portion of an uniform sneeze pattern to produce the tapered area within the uniform sneeze pattern. The dynamic threshold is changed as a function of distance between a pixel in the portion of the uniform sneeze pattern and the closest edge of an image area of the media sheet on which the tapered area of the sneeze pattern is to be printed. A second threshold can also be changed to alter a volume of ink associated with a pixel in the tapered area within the uniform sneeze pattern.

Abstract: A method of printing improved printed products using defect-free printing machine nozzles and compensated defective nozzles includes printing products and a test chart with test fields onto a transported substrate, the test fields having tonal values, every test field including an unprinted line from a nonactivated, nonprinting nozzle compensated by a neighboring nozzle having a compensation value, pairs of tonal value and compensation value being specified and used for the chart, recording an image of the chart, computer-analyzing the image and determining the compensation value. Every pair of tonal value and compensation value is used multiple times in the chart and a corresponding number of spaced apart test fields is created. A characteristic value representing test field homogeneity and determining compensation value quality is assigned to every measuring field. The best characteristic value regarding a specified criterion and the compensation value is determined for every tonal value.
