    摘要: A device and method for axially aligning a rotary head assembly. The rotary head assembly includes a rotary head and an axial alignment assembly. The axial alignment assembly includes a guide plate means fixed to the rotary head. The guide plate means has a pair of opposing surfaces extending radially from the shaft. The axial alignment assembly also includes a carrier means with a yoke attached thereto, and an alignment element attached to the yoke. The alignment element has a pair of opposing wear surfaces for contact with the opposing surfaces of the guide plate means. The alignment element also includes an axial pressure exerting means for exerting pressure axially on each wear surface so that there is contact between the opposing surfaces of the guide plate means and the corresponding wear surfaces. Pressure is exerted on the wear surface in the direction toward the corresponding face of the guide plate means to maintain axial alignment of the head assembly as it rotates.

The cylindrical ring is a pair of plastic rings sandwiching a metal ring which extends outwardly past the surface of the plastic rings to form a scoring rib which interfits into the slot to score the paper.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for forming a compression scored release liner for use with a face stock carrying a pressure sensitive adhesive. The apparatus comprising a generally cylindrical roller having a generally semi-circular cross sectioned rib extending entirely around the surface of the roller concentric therewith, a pair of adjacent recesses forming relief areas extending entirely around the roller on either side of the rib, and a pair of lands each extending outwardly from the relief areas and forming the remaining cylindrical surface of the roller. The roller compression scores the surface of a release liner in a controlled manner even though the thickness of the liner may vary, by providing relief areas and lands adjacent thereto on each side of the compression scoring rib so that excess material can be displaced from the scoring region in order to maintain uniform density of the liner in the scored region and prevent the rib from completely cutting through the liner.

    摘要: Creasing and slotting apparatus for use in producing carton blanks from a moving sheet of material, the apparatus comprising a pair of driven shafts one of which carries rotary creasing heads each having a formation adapted to engage the moving sheet to crease same, and the other carries rotary slotting heads aligned respectively with said creasing heads in the direction of travel of the sheet and each having a pair of spaced arcuate slotting blades one of which is movable with respect to the other around the axis of the associated shaft such that the distance between the blades and thus the slots cut thereby is adjustable, there being a first compensator means for selectively rotating the slotting heads while the associated shaft is stationary or in motion, to enable the heads to be positioned in register relative to the moving sheet, and second compensator means for selectively rotating the shaft carrying the creasing heads in a likewise manner, there being a driving connection between said creasing head shaft and each movable slotting blade on the other shaft, whereby the relative positions of the fixed and movable blades can be adjusted during drive.

    摘要: An arrangement for scoring continuously transported flat workpieces to be folded along scored lines is composed of scoring tools fastened to shafts that are parallel to each other. One part of the scoring tools features a groove and the other part features a ridge. The groove and the ridge follow a helical path over external cylinders defined by the tools and engage with each other in the contact region of their cover lines. In order to set lengths of the scored lines, a tool part is composed of a package of tightly compact, discoid segments that carry the scoring tools. At least one part of these segments can be retained on the shaft in a manner permitting rotation, and located at different angles, in order to be able to form two scored lines with only one pair of scoring rolls. A cylindrical saucer-type segment forming a second scoring tool is retained on each shaft. One of the cylindrical saucer-type segments is provided with a helical ridge and the other cylindrical saucer-type segment is provided with a helical groove. The helical ridge and the helical groove engage with each other in the contact region of their cover lines of the external cylinder defined by the same.

    摘要: An improved slotter wheel mechanism designed for use in the formation of box blanks is provided which includes a rotatable wheel assembly supporting one or more slotter blades; the blades are coupled to the wheel by means permitting shifting of the blades during rotation of the wheel assembly between an extended slotting position and a retracted blank-clearing position. In one embodiment, the blades are supported on respective blade holders each having a cam secured thereto. A stationary yoke plate adjacent the wheel assembly supports a pair of inner and outer cam grooves adapted to receive the blade holder cams. A shiftable, grooved cam switch is operatively interposed in the cam arrangement for selectively directing the blade holder cams into one or the other of the cam grooves, thereby camming the associated blade holders and blades between their respective positions. If desired, use can be made of a sectionalized slotting blade assembly having blade sections interconnected by means of a pivotal, intermediate blade section. In another embodiment, a cam assembly presents a shiftable cam portion which can be shifted to select a blade extended or retracted position and further includes a locking link assembly for locking the blade holder and thereby the blades in the selected position during rotation through the portion of the arc of travel.

The slotting blade is mounted in the same way as a conventional slotting blade with the exception that the top is profiled to give gradual crushing during rotation. The tool's area gets successively larger to the point that the top land equals the width of the slotter blade and its O.D. when mounted is effectively the pitch circle of the tool assembly. This design allows for the air to be removed from the board gradually and produces a sharp clean cut by the slotter.
