摘要: A tool for use with Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) machines and systems for use in in-process inspection of composite parts. The AFP system uses a robot, fiber guide, compaction roller, heating system, and an in-process inspection tool. The in-process inspection tool utilizes at least one profiler housed within a support bracket, which mounts the profiler on an AFP head of the AFP system such that the profiler does not interfere with the AFP layup, but outputs an in-process inspection signal representing a surface profile of a fiber strip as it is placed onto a molding for a composite part by the AFP head.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the additive manufacturing of three-dimensional objects are disclosed. Two or more materials are extruded simultaneously as a composite, with at least one material in liquid form and at least one material in a solid continuous strand completely encased within the liquid material. A means of curing the liquid material after extrusion hardens the composite. A part is constructed using a series of extruded composite paths. The strand material within the composite contains specific chemical, mechanical, or electrical characteristics that instill the object with enhanced capabilities not possible with only one material.

摘要: A composite component adapted to be formed into an aerofoil, a method of forming an aerofoil, an aerofoil, an aircraft wing and a forming jig. The method involves forming a flat layup sheet of plies (1) to be folded about a central leading edge region (6) of the layup into an aerofoil shape, applying to the flat layup (1) one or more layups of plies (9, 10) shaped as spars, partially curing the layup (1) with the spars attached, folding the resulting partially cured composite component (30) about the leading edge region (6) in a forming jig (19) so that opposing edges (4, 5) of the sheet meet as a trailing edge (36) of the aerofoil (35), clamping the jig (19) closed and curing the composite component (30) and adhesive in the forming jig (19) to form the finished aerofoil (35).

摘要: A system for fabrication of an aerospace structure incorporates a mold having a surface and at least one unidirectional SFL head adapted to lay down a plurality of collimated tows in a predetermined laminated pattern on the mold surface to produce a fuselage skin. At least one cross plied laminate SFL head is adapted to lay down a cross plied laminate base interface on the fuselage skin to establish a lattice rib shape for each of a plurality of lattice ribs. The cross plied laminate SFL head has a band placement head steerable to avoid structural design features and to maintain spacing from adjacent steered lattice ribs. The unidirectional SFL head is further adapted to lay down a plurality of collimated tows on the base interface of each of the plurality of lattice ribs for a first plurality of unidirectional tow plies in each lattice rib. The unidirectional SFL head has a fiber placement head steerable to match the lattice rib shape to avoid structural design features and to maintain spacing from adjacent steered lattice ribs.

One embodiment includes a bi-directional cutter for Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) manufacturing. The cutter includes a cutter body that has an upper edge and a lower edge, and has an opening placed between the upper edge and the lower edge that is dimensioned to enable passage of a tow of fiber through the cutter body. The cutter also includes a first blade disposed on the lower edge of the cutter body that is oriented to cut the tow when the cutter is driven downward, and a second blade disposed on an edge of the opening in the cutter body that is oriented to cut the tow when the cutter is driven upward.
