    摘要: An apparatus and method for cutting a workpiece or template from wood, plastic, or other media. The apparatus is a flexible cutting rail guide comprising a length of elastomer stock having a cross-section with at least one ninety-degree angle, the elastomer stock being securable to a workpiece or template media. Preferably, the elastomer stock is square in cross-section and has a durometer rating in the range of about 75 to 90. The method teaches the use of a flexible cutting rail guide, workpiece media, and a router to cut a workpiece, comprising the steps of a) defining the desired design shape on the template media; b) removably securing the flexible cutting rail guide to the template media; and, c) cutting the template media by guiding the router along the flexible cutting rail guide. The invention further provides a method for cutting two or more identically shaped workpieces using the pattern or template.

    摘要: Pilot device for a suspended cutting knife of a cutting head of an automatically controlled cutting machine for cutting fabric sheet material spread out on a cutting table in multiple layers. The cutting head is controlled by moving the cutting head along the X- and Y-axes and pivoting about a Z-axis for moving the knife tangently along a predetermined cutting path. The cutting knife is reciprocally movable along the Z-axis. The cutting head includes a device for guiding the unsuspended part of the cutting knife and a pressure foot rigidly connected to the pivotal cutting head. The suspended end of the knife is mounted in the cutting head so as to be freely rotatable around the Z-axis. The guiding device is adjacent to the free end of the knife and comprises a socket rigidly connected to the cutting head having a support which is freely rotatably mounted in the socket around a vertical axis located in front and adjacent to the cutting edge of the cutting knife and parallel, at a predetermined distance, to the Z-axis. The support has a slot surrounding the flanks of the knife and a sensor for detecting the instantaneous rotation angle and/or its direction of the support relative to the socket and providing correcting signals.

One end of the knife is mounted in the cutting head so as to be freely rotatable around the Z-axis, and the guiding device is arranged adjacent to the remaining free end of the knife and comprises a socket rigidly connected to the cutting head, and a support which is freely and rotatably mounted in the socket around a vertical axis located in front and adjacent to the cutting edge of the knife, and parallel and spaced a predetermined distance from the Z-axis.     摘要: A method and apparatus for cutting sheet material utilizes a closed loop automatically controlled cutting machine having a reciprocating cutting blade as the cutting tool. Sheet material to be cut is spread in multiple plies to form a layup, and the cutting blade and the material are then moved relative to one another in cutting engagement along predefined lines of cut. During cutting, a sensor detects a cutting parameter that is affected by the interaction of the cutting blade and sheet material, and signals provided by the sensor are fed back in the closed loop automatic control mechanism to adjust or initiate further steps in the cutting operation. Such adjustment or initiation alters the cutting machine operation for cutting conditions in real time in order to improve the overall performance of the machine.

    摘要: A system and method for cutting multiple pattern pieces from a layup of sheet material employing two-stage digitizing to produce a cutting program in which contour segments of individual pieces are cut by a cutting blade in different directions about the pattern pieces. The direction in which a particular segment of a pattern piece contour is cut and the order in which the segments are cut are selected to most easily facilitate the cutting operation. The point on any given pattern piece toward which a cutting blade is advanced from different directions is generally the point of closest approach to an adjacent or contiguous pattern piece in the marker cut in the sheet material. The feed rate and tangency of the cutting blade are also regulated at sensitive cutting points such as the points of closest approach to an adjacent pattern piece.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for controlling a cutting blade which cuts pattern pieces from layups of sheet material held in a compressed condition by vacuum employs a pressure sensor to detect previous cuts near the blade as the blade advances along a cutting path through the layup. The sensor has a pickup which translates with the blade along the cutting path and the reduced pressure produced by the vacuum in the previous cuts is sensed as the blade comes into close proximity to the cuts. When a cut is detected, control mechanism regulating the motions of the blade through the layup respond to the detected cut and vary the cutting parameters of the blade to permit more accurate cutting in regions adjacent the cut.
