An in-line indexing mechanism as part of a work-stop system which employs a lead screw to alter the relative distance between a work-stop plate and a swing arm—as well as alignment pins and springs to maintain contact and rigidity between this work-stop plate and swing arm—in order to precisely alter the parameters of a workpiece plane. In particular, the indexing mechanism of the preferred embodiment resides within the extension of an arm, and is located, by default, within the workpiece plane; the act of indexing therefore exerts force upon a workpiece along a coincident axis within said workpiece plane. Additionally, the indexing mechanism may be removed from the workpiece plane, by way of axially rotating the arm, without abandoning the original workpiece parameter and adjustment values.

A work-stop and work-adjustment assembly for use in the metalworking and woodworking fields which is meant to run within a strut system (as in Unistrut or a comparable product) and is comprised of a four-piece assembly. The design of the assembly allows for the fine adjustment of a piece of material and can be “flipped-away” out of the work piece plane in order to clear a work table surface. The present invention is unique in that it can be used in both woodworking and metalworking applications, and can be used to make a traditionally imprecise function—such as cutting on a radial arm saw—accurate to around ten thousandths of an inch (˜0.010″), and in some cases to around 5 thousandths of an inch (˜0.005″) depending on the instrument and material to be cut.

An apparatus for centering and indexing of milling machine parts, in particular angle milling heads on a spindle carriage of a milling machine. Cooperating indexing elements are arranged on the angle milling head and on the spindle carriage, which elements are simultaneously also the centering elements. These are constructed as four similarly constructed aligning units which are arranged offset to one another each at 90.degree. in peripheral direction. Each aligning unit consists of an aligning tab arranged on the one milling machine part, preferably the angle milling head and a fixing piece provided on the other milling machine part and has a groove therein. The angle milling head can be fixed in predetermined angular positions relative to the spindle carriage through the aligning units.

Instead of forming and storing a separate jig for each workpiece which is to be subjected to a machine operation or other workprocess, a series of cams are set in coded positions by reference to a code table consisting of digital symbols which makes it possible to reform a jig at any future time from a few basic parts. The devising a system of digital symbols makes possible to use the process in sophisticated methods of control.
